I arrived in Covington in early April, right after the disappearance of Callie. There was a lot surrounding this town and I desperately wanted in the middle of it, I Sara Brann was going to find my way to the center one way or another. First things first, I need to go pick up house keys to Callie's old place. I wanted to start where the last trail ended, and she was the perfect place to go. I grabbed my bags looking around for a taxi when an old 1947 truck pulled up. "Well ain't you a pretty young'un." The man said from behind the wheel, "Whatcha looking for love? I may be old, but I can still help sometimes." He winked my way, "By the way the name is Tarry O'Connor, but folks round here call me Tarry. Some of them young'uns even have the nerve to call me 'Old Man Tarry', but I ain't a day over 82." I smiled slightly, it appeared I found my first friend in this whole adventure. "Pleasure to meet you sir, I'm Sara Brann, I'm afraid I am quite new here and I really don't know where I am going. Would you mind assisting me in the matter?" I've never seen someone's face light up so quickly, he was out of his truck in a blink and loading my bags in the back. "Now where was it you said you's was off too?" I perked up at the question eager to get started, "I am headed over to where a miss Callie used to live." His eyes fell, "Oh, I see. Tragedy it was about that young girl. I knew her most of her life, she had so much time left." "What was she like?" Well... She was one of our best, you know that girl always had somewhere she was running off too, but she somehow always found time for an old man..." His words trailed off and his eyes filled with tears as he stared into the distance. "But," He brought his gaze to meet mine with a forced smile, " I best not be getting you down miss Sara. It's best we get you home and settled." He opened the passenger door and helped me climb inside. "Thank you Tarry." A genuine smile spread this time across his face, "Anything for a pretty young lady such as yourself." He climbed in the drivers seat and started driving towards Callie's place.
I watched out the truck window at all the houses and people moving about, this town is like a puzzle to me, and everything in it are the pieces to reveal the picture. I just have to find someway to put them all together. I look forward to the journey here. I was snapped from my thoughts when the truck was shifted into park. "Are we here already?" Tarry was getting out and grabbing my bags. "Yes Ma'am, we are here. Welcome to Covington." I gave a weak smile, this town intrigued me so much, I just couldn't wait to sink my teeth into some information. "Thank you Tarry, I do believe I am going to like it here." With that he drove off and I headed inside.
I looked around the house with ease, taking in every detail. The first room I studied was her bedroom. I looked at the brown plush rug and how it contrasted against the beige walls with the cream woodwork. I saw what looked like hand prints on the window near the bed and a shiver went up my spine. I walked from there to an all oak kitchen, it really did look like a farm house. Everything was a golden or red hue, the stove looked like it had been painted bright red. "That's going to have to change" I thought to myself. The fridge still had food totally molded. "Well... they did as I said and left everything they could as is.." I closed it disgusted by the smell. As for the rest of the house there was junk in many different places.
A couple of days went by and I got to know quite a few residents. I met Lena from the diner, I met mischievous Tommy, and sneaky Ava. Oh... and who could forget her dad, Mr. Tall, dark, and handsome. I was adjusting to my surroundings very nicely, well, I still needed a job. Sadly in a small town there aren't many jobs to be found even the diner was fully staffed. I looked to many places, but everywhere I turned I hit a wall. It was almost like they were trying to force me out of Covington, but if that's the case they have to work a lot harder.
Sorry for the shortness, more coming soon!!
