Spending time with Jesus is your special sacred time with the Lord where you come away from everything you were doing to sit and be with Jesus. It is indeed your special time with the lord and I believe it is very important for us to protect that special time and make a place for it on our daily schedule.
Before you begin it is suggested that you rid yourself of any distractions around you. I had a huge problem with distractions when I first started off and even now. I would be bombarded with so many things I had to get done or the grocery list and many other things. What I found was helpful is to write the important things down and for the other things bind the demons of distractions and plead the blood of Jesus over your time with him, asking him to cover it with his protection and to take care of everything. Then find a quiet place at your home or wherever you can where you can be alone with Him.The important thing is that you go there, and you give Him that time. Truly, even though it is pleasing to him, it is really beneficial to you. Think of yourself as a phone, when you spend time with God you are connected to the charging cable and being given what you need to keep you functioning. When you get to 100% you are able to function at full capacity, but then you get into your day and so much energy is used up as you go through your day. So what do we do when our batteries are at 15%? Don’t we connect it to our charging cables before our batteries die? Well it’s quite the same with spending time with God. After finding that quiet place, this is where you open up and let go of all your burdens and simply talk to God. If there are any sins that come up in your mind confess them and repent of them. Tell Him everything He would love to hear you speak to Him! It is also a time where you can pray for those you need to pray for. Worship is also a beautiful way to get connected with God. It brings healing and peace.
If you find that you are not sure what to say or you have run out of things to talk about you can also spend time in God’s word or journaling. It is always good to refresh your mind with the Word of the Lord and journaling comes hand in hand with that. If you think that you write better than you speak, then write your prayers! Write anything down to God, whether it be your feelings, your favorite scripture verses, or verses that you came across while reading the Bible. This also contributes to you memorizing them not only that but when you look back at your journal later on God can use it to speak to you. This is known as a rhema. You don’t always have to do the talking, the Lord would love to speak with you. All that is needed is to be silent and listen for his voice. Write down what you hear and then discern the words you hear after. You can pray for a spirit of discernment to know God’s Voice and to discern what you hear.
It has been recommended that we take Holy Communion daily if you are a priest for the days are evil. If you are not a priest and you have access to communion at church then I do advise you take it when you can. Like you need physical nourishment every day we also need spiritual nourishment. I have found by spending time with Jesus through Holy Communion and adoration has given me the strength and wisdom on how to fill my day. Being a mother or a father and having a busy schedule may create a struggle to do this, but I have found that I am a better mother by relying on the Lord through me through Holy Communion. It is also good to have your children join you if they wish as the Lord said. “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
Not everyone and there day or night is the same so if you ask him in prayer to help you put aside time for him he will help you as he knows what is best for your life. After all God does understand that you have a responsibility to others and to him. When you miss a day, repent and start again. The Lord does not expect perfection when we start, like a mother does not expect a baby to walk without falling sometimes. The best thing to do is get right back up and start again. If it helps create a schedule or pray to Him to help you find that balance. Even if you do not know what to pray about or what to say my answer is this: Speak from the heart because that is the best prayer there is!
I assure you, if you strive to make it a habit to push yourself to spend that quiet special time near Him and find that balance with a busy day – spending time with Him will become easier and easier! With each moment and every time spend with Him, you will become strong spiritually and closer and closer to Him.
So please do give it a try!
