"That's a noble cause"

Present

Baekhyun met with the rest of his friends soon after lectures since they all studied different degrees.

Baekhyuns lectures went on longer than the others and so he found them waiting for him by the picnic benches at the front of his lecture halls.

"Thank you. This is the sunshine I need after such a stressful day" Baekhyun said as he received the strawberry milkshake Kyungsoo passed him.  

"Who is that hottie you were talking to?" Luhan asked still admiring the tall handsome man.

"That's Daniel. We were assigned together for a project. I can totally hook you up if you're interested" Baekhyun responded with a wink.

"You know I'm always interested" Luhan responded with a wink and smile.

"After all your men drama everyone one would expect you to be the one going solo" Xiumin said.

"Telling Luhan to stay away from men is like telling any human being to stop breathing air. It's a basic need for him" Kyungsoo said causing everyone to laugh and Luhan to pout.

"Don't worry Lulu ignore them. You're young, beautiful and dixks are meant to be ridden" Baekhyun said making ridding motions.

"You're definitely a wild one Baek. I still find it hard to believe you're a medical student" Kyungsoo said and everyone agreed.

"Yeah. What's up with that?" Xiumin added

"I see you more as a...art student" Luhan added as well.

Baekhyun gave them a thoughtful look before gazing up in the sky and closing his eyes as if taking a walk down memory lane.

"My mom didn't always want to be a prostitute. She actually wanted to be a doctor and everything in her life was going well...well until she got pregnant with me. Her parents kicked her out and her so called boyfriend didn't want anything to do with her and so she was on her own.

That's how she became a stripper/ prostitute just to make ends meet after I was born. But as soon as she made enough money and I was old enough she took herself back to school. She couldn't afford a medical degree so she stuck with nursing but it was good enough. She would study out loud and I basically learnt all she learnt and it was all interesting. Helping people. Saving lives. That's what she wanted to do and I guess I'm just carrying on that dream" Baek said leaving his friends speechless.

Luhan was almost in tears.
"That's a noble cause"

As soon as Baekhyun got home that day he went straight to his personal office.

After adding a combination a safe opened filled with files and documents. He ignored everything reaching out for a framed certificate at the back.

He admired his mothers nursing certificate before moving his attention to the blood splattered on the corner of the document. He smirked remembering what had happened.

Yes. All that medical knowledge had been very useful. Especially on that day.

Past

"Finally my baby we did it"

"No mom you did it"

"No baby we did it. I couldn't have gone this far without you. My study buddy"

"Totally right" Baekhyun said with a laugh before his mother hugged him again.

It was a special day because his mother was now an official nurse and could work anywhere she wanted without people judging her lack of qualifications.

Baekhyun was more excited about the fact that now they were finally leaving the place he grew up in.

He hadn't had the best childhood and people did not treat him of his mother well because she was a well known prostitute.

From angry housewives, churches and community leaders they all led the hate campaigns against them.

But finally the day had come. His mom had finally quite at the club and they were moving away to a new city where no one knew then and they could start afresh.

Baekhyun went to finish packing in his room when he heard a loud crash from the kitchen.

He ran to see what was wrong and found his mom pressed against the wall by a man who had his hand around her throat.

"What's this I hear about you quitting at the club sweetheart. You didn't think I was going to allow you to get away from me" the man said with a smirk.

"You don't own me you..." He tightened his grip cutting off her speech.

"I always have what I want and since you aren't under that idiots protection anymore I can just take you back with me to China" he said before forcefully kissing her.

"MOM. GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF HER" Baekhyjn lashed out at the man who turned to him in anger but it turned into shock before he finally smirked.

Before Baekhyun could save him mom two men held onto him.

"Let me go" he struggled but the bigger men held him down. He was 13 and so they wasn't much he could do.

"Wow Kimmy. You didn't tell me you had such a handsome son. Actually since you don't seem interested in going with me I will take him instead" he threw her to the ground before walking towards the little boy.

"NO..." Kimmy screamed before jumping on the man leaving a cut on his face from the piece of broken vaze she picked up from the floor.

In rage the man pulled out a katana stabbing his mother in the chest.

"NOOOOOO...." Baekhyun screamed as he watched his mothers lifeless body fall to the floor as soon as the man pulled out his sword.

Even today Baekhyun isn't sure how it happened but he was able to escape the grasp of the big men before he grabbed the sword out of the mans hand who had not expected it but it was too late.

Baekhyun had never held a sword or even killed a chicken in his life but at that moment he remembered the vital body parts he had learnt with his mother and only after one movement of the sword in his hand caused the mans body to tumble to the ground.

The two other men were about to attack him when a voice stopped them.

"Go outside I need to speak to the young man" the voice said.

When he was sure that it was just the two of them Baekhyun turned to see an old man smiling at him.

He tightened the grip of the sword in his hand.

"Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt you. I don't hurt my friends"

"When did we become friends?"

"When you took care of my biggest problem. My nephew was the worst and I was trying to figure out ways to get rid of him and take the position of head of this family and you just sorted it out for me. For that I am greatly indepted in you. I'm sorry for the loss of your mother but from now on you are family and you have nothing to worry about"
