Title from Something's Gotta Give by All Time Low
(Alex's POV)
"What's happening?" I sit up and look around at the people around me. A man wearing a white jacket looks at me. "I'm Dr. Stump. You were in an accident," the doctor says. "You have someone waiting-"
"ALEX!" A voice shouts. They walk in and hug me. I tense up and push them off.
"Who- who are you?" I ask, looking at them with wide eyes.
"Alex? It's me... Jack-" he stares at me with confused eyes.
"We expected he would have memory loss. What's the last thing you remember?" Dr. Stump asks.
"I remember the first day of freshman year? But everything else is hazy."
"You don't remember anything from the last two years?" The guy- Jack, looks at me, terrified.
I shake my head. I know my birthday. I know my name, my parents' names, where I live, I remember moving from England. I remember Tom. I remember-"
"Wait... Tom?" Jack asks softly. I nod.
"My brother."
He glances at the doctor and nods. "Right."
"Where are my parents?" I look around. Dr. Stump opens the door and my parents rush in.
"Alex!" Dad smiles as my mom hugs me, giving me a gentle squeeze.
Dr. Stump frowns and leads them to the corner of the room and says something to them. Mom gasps and looks at me.
They walk over cautiously as if I'll break if they step too hard.
"Honey... What grade are you in?"
"Freshman year?" I answer, almost like a question. Her face pales. "Wait no- Dr, Stump said I'm missing out on two years..."
"You finished Sophomore year," dad sighs and rubs my mom's back.
Jack just stares at me in a horrified way.
"You don't remember me?" His voice goes soft. I think desperately. I have to know him, right? Otherwise, why would he be here? I end up giving up and shaking my head.
His eyes tear up. "I- I should go," he gulps and rushes out of the room.
"Jack-" my mom sighs.
"Who is he? What's going on? Why can't I remember anything?" I look back and forth from my mother to my father.
"Alex honey, I think it's better if you find out for yourself," dad says solemnly.
I blink and lay my head back against the headboard. "Fine. Where's Tom?" I ask.
My parents' eyes widen.
"Honey-" my mom starts.
"He's not here right now!" Dad interrupts. Mom shoots him a glance before just nodding.
"Is he at home?" I ask.
"He- no not at the moment," my mom bites her lip.
"Okay," I shrug. Mom glances at my dad again. "So how did I lose my memories?"
"You and Jack went to a party. And when you were coming back, three robbers tried to rob you, but it got out of hand, and the three guys attacked you, they shoved you against a wall, and you hit your head. You were unconscious for two days," the doctor explains.
I nod slowly, trying to process everything.
"Well... Alex should get some rest," Dr. Stump says, stopping the awkward silence we fell into. My parents nod and leave the room.
"Alex, it'll be hard at first. But your memory should come back. Until then, I can recommend someone to help you through this?" He says and hands me a card. I take the card and read it before putting it on the table next to the bed.
"Thank you," I smile politely as he leaves.
