Gleipnir attacked us once more
I pulled Reana away from Gleipnir's offense perimeter. She didn't fight back as the ground ripped apart around us, destroyed by the brute force of Gleipnir alone.
The soldiers uselessly shot at Gleipnir, tried to make any scratch on those things. Soon they realized their efforts were futile from the very beginning. No ordinary weapon could put a scratch on Alterium, especially our weapon.
"Miss Melista!" The soldiers screamed. "We have to retreat! Now!"
Fortunately, no soldiers in charge gave a damn care about me.
"They cared so much for you." I told her as I pulled out the rifles and shot Dimitri on the left-open. But Gleipnir closed the opening quicker than I ever anticipated.
Reana gave me nothing but a real troubled look.
"That was a talk for another day. From a girl that used to be the daughter of Equatorial's president. Not from a volunteer like me." She grabbed my hand and shooting too, ignoring my unabashed shock. "God, is that thing had any other weakness? We need to shot the user before we get killed here!"
Tale for another day, indeed.
With no second thought, I brought Reana to my arms and jumped back. The muscles on my feet tensed as they leapt around evading all those attacks. Within seconds, I felt strange sensation running through my body.
It felt light. Not only my body, but also my head and mind. Everything seemed to be put in places again after scattering around like a giant hot mess. I felt almost nothing, compared to the previous moments.
That means my time is limited.
I jumped on one of Gleipnir's chains and jumped. It rejected me with shock wave the first moment I landed on it, but strange movements covered me up, prevented me from falling too far or making any mistakes while holding a lady on my arms.
We landed on the ground safely, far from Gleipnir's reach. Behind us, the soldiers ready to pick her up. "I have another tale too, Reana. Tale for another day. From a soldier that chose a wrong side of the war. A choice that cost him everything." I let her go, walk by her own. Then I stood on the front with riffle on my hand, ready to shot at Dimitri. "Not an interesting tale. Just a rail of failure of an inconsistent man."
A man that supposed to kill you before all of this even began.
"I'd like to hear that." My heart dropped when that answer come. I turned a bit, and saw Reana's unwavering figure. Amidst the chaos erupted around her, blood and lifes shredded like garbage, she stood gracefully on top of it. Not trampled all over it, but walked over it with pride and duty that she never intended to ever let go.
The human girl that captured the human heart of me, the part that acknowledged her just a few moments ago.
Not it all faded. Slowly, but surely.
"Now, let's bring that guy down." Reana pulled out her gun again. "Have a plan?"
"Yes." I looked at the soldiers around her and nodded. Those guys reacted fast. They got my signal and instantly pulled Reana away from the fight.
I took two steps further from her bounded figure.
"H-Hey, what are you doing?!" Reana screamed. "What are you doing? I want to fight there! We need to fight!"
Four men hold her arms, preventing her from going any further while slowly dragging her back to the safe place, far from the main battle field. Somewhere between all those civilians that desperate for help.
