Conan: A male German shepherd that works as a police dog
"Alright Conan, you can take a break" Officer Martin says as he scratches behind Conan's ear. Conan wagged his tail a bit and got up to get some water from his cage. As he started walking he watched the younger police dogs getting use to the training. Conan sat down and smiled a bit, they reminded him of the time when he first started to train.
Conan laid down and his smile turned into a frown and his happiness turned into anger. He was watching a a litter of German shepherd puppies having a small training session. This made Conan have a flashback of when he was picked on by his siblings, he was also the runt of the litter.
The smallest puppy was trying her best but was having a hard time jumping over a small hurdle. Her siblings were laughing and picking on her for being too small to do anything. Conan gritted his teeth together and slowly walked over to the puppies. He knew he was not suppose to mess with the other dogs, the only reason Officer Martin let him wander off is because Conan is simply the best trained in the K9 unit.
He made his way over to the small puppy and stood over her in a protective position, almost as a mother dog would do for her own puppies. Conan growled lowly at the other puppies, he showed a little bit of his teeth.
The puppies backed away slowly and left their smallest sister alone. The small puppy ran out from under Conan's legs and looked up at him in awe.
"What's your name, sir?" she asked with amazement in her voice.
"Conan, what's yours?" Conan replied, he couldn't help but to smile at the puppy.
"My name is Athena!" she said, Conan could hear the excitement in her voice.
The next day while Conan was on break, Athena hung out with him. They play fought and Conan acted as if he were pain when Athena "bit" him. This made Athena giggle every time Conan would let out a fake yelp. But soon the fun ended when Conan was called over by Officer Martin.
"Ok, enough resting. Time for some more work." Officer Martin said to Conan who was laying on his back with Athena laying on his chest.
Conan frowned and gently nudged Athena, who was sound asleep, off of his chest. He slowly stepped over her and trotted over to Officer Martin. Conan was preparing himself to train but the sheriff walked over to Conan's handler, Officer Martin.
"Officer Martin, may I have a word with you?" the sheriff asks.
"Yes sir." Officer Martin replied. He walked over to the sheriff and so did Conan.
"I am trusting you with very important news. The news is very concerning. The navy has estimated that the world could possibly end in two days-" the sheriff was interrupted.
"WHAT?!" Officer Martin exclaimed.
"Officer Martin, please! It is possible but it may just be a false alarm, but just to be sure you and other police officers need to inform the people of Fields County that they need to get to the city sanctuary right now. They need to bring food and water to ration, and tell them no animals allowed. There's not enough room." the sheriff explained.
"Y-yes sir...r-right away sir." Officer Martin responded, with obvious worry in his voice.
Officer Martin took off to his car to warn the towns and counties, leaving Conan by himself. Conan started to panic, he had to find Athena before it was too late. He looks around, he could hear his own heart beat. He started barking out Athena's name, hoping she would bark back. He then saw Athena trying to be rushed into a cage with all of the other dogs but Conan knew that Athena wouldn't make it in there with all of those other dogs. He started to bark louder and harder than he knew he could ever bark. He ran as fast as he could, he pounced on the handler who was trying to put into the cage. When the handler fell down, Conan quickly got off of the handler and grabbed Athena in his mouth.
"Conan! What's happening? What does 'apocalypse' mean? Is it bad? Is that why everyone is crying and screaming? I'm scared, Conan!" Athena shouted every question and statement.
Conan only ignored her and kept running, trying to find an exit while carrying Athena in his mouth as a mother would carry her own puppy. He knew the only way to get out of the fenced yard was to jump over the fence itself.
Conan tightened his grip around Athena, he backed up to gain power. He then started to take long strides and gave a powerful push off of his hind legs and went flying through the air. Athena squealed in mid air. Conan landed on all fours with Athena still in his mouth, he put her down gently. Athena was shaking by then, she was confused and scared so Conan understood. Conan looked around, there were people running through the streets. People running with small children in their arms, there was screaming and crying. Conan stood over Athena to make sure she would't get swept away from him. He looked around nervously, he decided it would be safer not to follow all of the people because animals are not allowed in the sanctuary. He picked Athena up and again and started to make his way through the croud.
