"Coooorrrpooorraaalllll!!!!" Eren screams as he turns right and left and left and right. The corridors were the same, that of a maze, it was considered a miracle to not get lost in such a huge and wide building.
Eren wanted to start the morning with a happy memory to take with him. It was obvious that at the end of this day, that seemed to hold despair as much as it held hope, will only break him mentally and physically more.
Circling the perimeter, he heard a footstep, "Corporal!" His face lit up for a second before he hid his disappointment.
"Oh Eren! Hey!" The man greeted and the brunette bowed in response. It was Moblit, Hanji's right hand man. "You have to prepare now! We're going out earlier than usual. You're the last one we've been waiting for!!!"
"Eh?! Wait---have you seen Corporal Le--"
"There's no time, hurry!" He grabbed Eren's arm and they rushed to the gate.

In the crowd, Eren searched for his lover. They never got to patch up ever since the fight last night. Levi's probably at the front again, with Erwin and Hanji so it really is impossible to talk to him. He regretted saying those to Levi when Levi only wanted to spend more time with him. The captain had a point but the teenager's made more sense; still, they both felt bad.
Not to mention that this might be the last day...
Eren held his key close to his heart.
No, not this time. I have no time for this. I have to do this for everyone...for corporal...for...corporal......
The ground was shaking. The pebbles at the ground had spread out. The atmosphere was heavier than last year. With the sound of rattles from the chains ringing in each and every person's ears from the rising of the gates---Erwin's voice had stood out.
"FORWARD!!!"
I love you...Corporal...

Levi thought he heard something. Perhaps a delusion he's been hearing and seeing ever since the fight. But it's useless thinking about that now. Eren was right, he put himself first before the masses; it was selfish. It was selfish but it was normal.
As much as the raven haired wanted to be near Eren, he couldn't. If he so much gets near the kid, or even just the shortest of glimpses, he'll run wild, abandon the mission, and take the brat to a faraway place and live together, nowhere near danger.
The horses' neighs and clip clops rang through the hard ground. It was clear there was drought in some parts of the soil. After the smoke gun started the initiation of this battle, the formation was followed and Levi and Eren's group were the farthest from each other. Levi made it that way.
Eren, I love you. Please stay safe. Please.

So far so good, there haven't been any deaths yet. Unlike the previous strategy, this time, instead of avoiding the titans, kill it instantly, as fast as you can. And it must be a groupwork to prevent any damage. If there are two titans approaching a group, the first group must exterminate the first titan, while the second titan must be preoccupied by the nearest group to the first group.
That was how everything was planned and settled. Now, they have to cover as much ground as possible and rid it of titans. And Eren's emotions will be put to a challenge.
There was the forest. The place where everything went wrong. The place where Levi's teammates have died. The place where those bad memories lurk, threatening to destroy Eren once more---depriving him of having confidence and the will to live because of senseless guilt.
But he knows more than anyone...Eren knows that he musn't let anything sway him. That could have been another way to open a door to a new world, to the future where everything will be peaceful.
Yeah...that was his dream. It used to be. No, he doesn't want to think that way. Both, it's gotta be both. Humanity's sake for the future and Levi's safety.

Meanwhile, on the left side of the forest...
"Hey Erwin, isn't this going a little bit too well?", asked Hanji, half-smiling, half-frowning. "It's so quiet. And we haven't encountered any titans yet besides the other groups."
"You need not worry." The commander replied. "Because it is going well. This is the most perfect strategy we've ever thought of."
"Hm." The corporal joined in on the conversation, "Erwin, Hanji, are you sure tha---"
*ssjjjjddgh*
Someone screamed, "The cart!!!"
The three elite commanders in charge looked behind them and saw the driver of the cart got his head separated from his body.
Just as Levi was about to face front to see his tracks...his eyes had widened, never have they ever been bigger. He muttered to himself, "Titans.."
There are thousands of them, triple the ones in the last expedition. And it was clear to everyone that not only did these three higher ups pull tricks up their sleeves, but also the people who had created the titans and tried to kidnap Eren pulled something from their brains, whoever they might be.
The group Eren was in had gone through the middle part and had just gotten out of the forest. There Eren saw Levi, Levi saw Eren. Both frozen-stiff, eyes locked on each other.
There are titans. Thousands of them.
They both thought. And without a split second spared, the whole prep talk to themselves about saving the humans had gone to oblivion.
"Eren!!!!!!"
"Heichō!!!!!!!"
They shouted at the top of their lungs. The distance was far and yet they hurried to each other's sides.
But then the screams in agony and pain started, and Eren's resolution had dissipated again. Somehow, Eren's horse had halted and he stared at the gruesome and horrifying scene behind him.
Not again. It's happening again. It's because of me again. Why am I always so selfish?! Snap out of it...snap out of it!!!
"--en!! Eren!!!" No matter how many times the corporal called out, the brat wasn't budging from his spot. "Fucking..shit..." He kept on pulling up and down the strips of leather, ordering the horse to speed up.
Suddenly, Eren spotted from the corner of his eye.
Erwin.
Who was smiling. Not the smile he usually gives, but the kind of smile you see on someone's face when they're trying to say sorry to a person who's dead because of them. That kind of smile. And it struck him.
As soon as Levi saw the kid tremble, he knew it wasn't from the blood-filled scenario. He snatched a look at the commander and saw the same thing, and thought the same thing.
THAT FUCKING ERWI---
"EREN, GET AWAY FRO--"
"Eh? Heich---"
