Australia. 2014.
I was leaving today, along with three of my bestfriends for, according to them, our "gap year". It apparently meant taking a year off before going to college. It was fine with me as long as we actually went to a place that's decent enough with the limited money that we have.
I guess that meant Bali in Indonesia.
It wasn't that far from Australia, which was good I guess. Luke said it was a totally chill place with booze, girls, amazing beaches and just a perfect place to take break after all the shit that happened in high school.
Leaving home for a year wasn't that all pleasing to my family. They basically wanted me to head off to college just so they could stop working as soon as I graduate. That didn't stop me from going still. My other friends' families were absolutely fine with it, I don't see why mine completely disagree with the idea. It was just a year, nothing will change.
Luke's family was rich as hell and didn't even hesitate to allow him on this trip of ours. Ashton's were fine with it as well, they weren't as filthy rich as Luke, but they get by. Michael on the other hand, didn't give a shit about his whereabouts as long as he went to college the next year. They just gave him money and bid him goodbye.
I was cut off of my thoughts when I heard a honking outside our house. Luke was picking us all up since he was the only one of us four that had a decent car that could hold all our suitcases inside.
I packed up my stuff and went downstairs to say goodbye to my mom, who was the only person in the house at the moment.
"Bye, mum. I'll see you next year." I kissed her cheek and she nodded slowly.
"Keep in touch, Cal. Take care, okay? Don't get a girl pregnant while you're there."
We both chuckled. My mom was with me with all the pregnancy scares that some of the girls I dated over the past years. She was just looking out for me and I know I'll probably miss her the most.
"Yeah, yeah, mom, I'll be careful." I hugged her and went out the door.
Luke was outside opening the trunk of his car, "Bye Mrs. Hood!" He said whilst I gave him my luggage and he threw it inside. We walked towards opposite doors and slammed them both shut.
"Oh my God, man. I can't believe we're leaving." He said overexcitedly, I smiled along with him.
"Yeah, me too." I laughed and he slapped my head like the little bastard that he is.
He started the car and headed off to Ashton's house a couple blocks away.
-------
"Michael, hurry the fuck up! We're going to be late." Ashton yelled at Michael, who was scrambling through his stuff.
"I can't find my motherfucking passport. Jesus Christ."
"There is something seriously wrong with you." Ashton was obviously frustrated with Michael's stupidity. I was too, I just kept it to myself. Go Hood.
We were all at Michael's now, waiting for him to finish looking for his passport. We were supposed to be at the airport thirty minutes ago, but Michael just had to be a real idiot.
"I found it!" He said triumphantly, waving a red book in his hand.
"Thank God. I was this close to killing you." Ashton rolled his eyes at Michaek and I just laughed the two of them. I just realized how much I loved these guys, no homo. We've been together since the very beginning of elementary and much through high school. And now we were practically going to be living in a different country together. Unbelievable, I didn't even know how we would be able to survive in one house together.
"Took you long enough. Let's go."
Luke started the car and we all entered his car.
Michael rolled down his window and yelled, "OH MY FUCKING GOD BALI'S BETTER BE READY," We all burst into laughter and were all pumped with adrenaline.
I had feeling in my gut that this was going to be one of the best and worst year of my life.
And I got even more excited.
