Chapter 1: The Whispers Begin

One rainy day in November, Coraline Morson sat on her floor crying and alone. She finally picked up a near by book laying on the floor almost wishing her to open it. It was her moms journal, that Coraline found soon after her mother's passing. This made her cry even more than she was before. Her mother wrote everything in it, every last memory. She then, heard a faint sound coming from downstairs. It sounded like someone was whispering "get out! get out!" As curious as she was she crawled down the stairs trying not to be seen by the person, if it even was a person. Then she heard the voice again, but this time the voice said "I am warning you get out get out get out!".
This time she was a little more convinced there was a person just down about four steps more, when she thought of this she got a weird feeling in her stomach. As she went down one more step she heard the voice once more. When she got all the way down the stairs she noticed there wasn't a person there at all, actually the voice got even more faint from down there. Still curious Coraline followed the sound all the way up the stairs. She found herself back in her bedroom staring at the journal, which was indeed making the noise.
Chapter 2: The Deadly Surprise
Coraline suddenly heard a scream from the bathroom and it wasn't the journal. Again acting like herself (curious), Coraline walked into the bathroom, not knowing what she might see. She then found her sister lying there on the ground dead and on the mirror the words (in blood) "guess who's next?" Coraline had no idea what she should do next, she turned around to see the door slamming hard behind her, as this happened two crows flew in swarming her and her dead sister. She tried to open the door but it was locked, then water started bursting out of the faucets and the bath tub. Water filling the room from the floor to the ceiling, Coraline trying to swim to the top for air but it was no use. Quickly thinking, she grabbed the hammer that was on the counter that her father used to fix the faucet earlier. As the water started draining her dead sister floated to the top, as the words written in blood washed away new ones started to appear, "sure you have done it this time, but you can't survive forever."
Chapter 3: The Basketball Game
Silence. Standing outside the decrepit door Coraline's friends waited. Noticing the door was unlocked Carson was the first to walk inside. Following beside him Sarah and Jared walked in too. They were there to pick up Carson and head to the Westfield Middle School basketball championships. It was still very quiet except for the ticking of the rustic clock in the family room. That was when it began. A mass of black shreds was forming behind Carson, swirling, threatening to take him.
"Carson," Sarah said slowly "we need to go!" She finished.
"The game doesn't start for another hour!"
"Carson I'm not,.....we're not kidding! Come on!" Shouted Jared urgently, as the figure was growing.
"Not until you tell me what your getting so worked up about!"
"Carson COME ON! You need to trust us!" Sarah screamed. The shreds tugged at his soul, with one last look, Sarah and Jared started running up the stairs.
"Wait where are you going?" Carson said, turning around blankly. Dark cloaked and all. The figure was now right behind him. The face of the figure blocked by the hood of the cloak. Carson turned and faced the figure, it only took two seconds, and Carson was only left as a ghost.
Upstairs Sarah and Jared were frantically looking for Coraline. She was no where. They heard a loud bang on the bathroom door, they opened it. An ocean of water came gushing out of the bathroom. There they saw Coraline, looking very depressed, which darkened both of their moods. Then they saw Taylor, Coraline's twin lying with her deep brown spirals spread out on the floor. No one spoke, no one wanted too. Jared broke the silence though, "Are you okay Coraline, what happened?" Coraline looked up but didn't speak until a few minutes later. Tears in all she whispered, "Taylor's gone....," "and there's nothing we can do about it."
Chapter 4: No Visitors!
Just as Sarah and Jared realized they had yet to tell Coraline Carson had left them Coraline asked the question, "Wait where's Carson?"
, " Carson has been taken by the demons...the demons of death." replied Sarah ,forcing the the words out. Less than fifteen minutes ago she'd been stressing about whether or not to wear her new blouse to the game ,now she just needed to survive. Amazing what can change in so little time. No, she refused to admit it. Nothing was different, nothing was going to change. She was going to live and all her friends were going to live. She wouldn't, couldn't, let the truth be anything but a lie. But then it dawned on her. Truth can't be anything but true. Her, her friends, her family, everyone ,was doomed.
"Don't you see? the demons are out to kill us."
"All one by one, then every other person that they can catch." Complained Jared.
Just then they heard the doorbell ring it was the mailman here to deliver a package, but before Coraline could reach the door it was too late. The mailman's package ,was the package of death, and her name was written all over it. As Coraline opened the door the mailman's eyes rolled up into his skull, replaced with empty sockets oozing a glowing, thick, sticky substance. "You....are.... next!!!! You will be my slave and then my victim! I will torture you until you are pleading to be mine!!!!!!!!" The words came from the mailman's mouth, but they definitely weren't his. They came out in a raspy, strained voice, like million tortured screams. He collapsed at once, dead. The voice still ringing in her ears. It sent an icy chill down Caroline's spine and left a vile taste in her mouth. But neither were worse than the screeching echo in her head, telling her was all her fault.
Chapter 5: Carson Returns
"We have to do something, our whole world will be terminated!" Jared said.
"Who is behind this?" Sarah asked curiously.
"I think I know what." "Not who?" Coraline said looking down at her feet.
The journal was laying on the ground beside her. Coraline didn't know what to say to make them believe her. "I heard the journal whisper (beware) before Taylor was murdered" mumbled Coraline. "What do you mean?" Sarah said.
Suddenly a shadow appeared it looked like Carson!!! Everyone stood staring for awhile in shock.
"Carson is that you?" asked Jared.
"Yes, and you will soon be joining me to terminate the world" Carson said staring at them.
"Don't listen to the evil spirit that has become
you, be our friend again." Coraline said.
"I am sorry Coraline but I believe that is impossible unless you join me."
"We just can't!" Sarah said.
"I'm sorry that's not an option" Carson said pulling out a knife. He stabbed Sarah in the arm. Sarah disappeared and reappeared as an evil ghost spirit.
Chapter 6: The Plan
Coraline was terrified now, her two best friends were ghosts, and she was soon to join them. "No, she thought to herself, I can't think like this now. I need to focus, so I can save the people I care about most." Coraline closed her eyes as a plan began to form. She knew what she had to do, knowing that the possessed journal was up to this.
"Come on Jared we need to get away from her, and bring the journal!" Coraline said. Jared and Coraline opened the door to the backyard and ran, ran, ran, nothing would stop them. They soon found themselves near a row of trees, the heard a noise but not like the evil spirit it was a calm and peaceful whisper. They followed it. They found a girl, "Hello, I am Zoey, you are here because you have the journal it possessed me too, you have to learn to fight it to become a good spirit, your friends can be saved."
"How?" Jared said.
"You must destroy the journal with a special knife, this will free the evil spirits and
give the good ones."
Chapter 7: The Quest
Zoey gave them a paper on it Coraline read, List of Things to Free the Evil Spirits. Then she looked below the title 1. Have a possessed spirit destroy it. 2. Try to destroy it themselves with a potion, or the worst of them all 3. Become an evil spirit and then destroy it. Coraline would do anything for her friends so 3 was still a possibility. Coraline folded the paper and put it in her pocket.
"What do you think would be the best to try?" Coraline asked Zoey.
"From experience 2 is very hard to do right, it requires a perfect mixture with every ingredient to the right dosage and you also have to find out what potion to make, although it definitely is the most safe to try."
"What about 1?" Jared said wondering.
"Well its a bit risky but it may be a better choice, a possessed spirit is hard to manage and the only thing that is on their minds is death, but it may be your only hope."
"and there is 3......this is your last choice to try, if anything 2 is a better choice than 3 as I said before evil spirits are hard to manage, especially if it is you that is possessed."
"What do you think Coraline?" Jared said staring into her green eyes.
"I'd say lets start with 1." Coraline said almost choking.
"Alright." Jared said.
Chapter 8: The Ghosts Return
"Maybe Sarah will fix this and destroy the journal, she hasn't been possessed as long as Carson has." Coraline mentioned.
"Okay, we have to hurry then." Jared said.
So they walked, well actually ran back to Coraline's house where Sarah and Carson were. They came in to find Sarah sitting on the floor. Carson came out of the kitchen and was then there behind her.
"Oh look they have come back, its so sad that they won't live to see how perfect everything will be without them here to mess up our plans." Carson said.
"Guys I know there is still a part of you here, Sarah just take the journal and destroy it and we can all be friends again, and I will have a sister again." Coraline said almost crying.
"We will kill you...!" Sarah said with an evil glimmer in her eye.
"No I won't let you do this!" screamed Coraline. "I will never give up!" Coraline screamed even louder.
Chapter 9: Plan B
"I know you won't Coraline,....." Carson paused. Rain came, and they heard drops on the roof. One after another and it got silent for a bit. Carson started to pull his knife out.
"No you don't." Jared yelled seeing it.
"Oh yes I will!, if she won't give up I will make her and nothing you do or say will stop me!"Carson said smirking.
"Or I'll kill you first Jared!"
" Stop Carson if you are going to kill anyone kill me first." Complained Coraline.
"No Coraline!, don't do it." Yelled Jered.
"I will if I have to!" Coraline yelled.
"But, you don't have to."" b...because I will." Jared said staring at her with a sympathetic look.
"Alright let me decide for the both of you, oh I've decided let's kill them both, this will make it easier for the both of you." Carson said laughing.
"and Coralline you would let your friend die with you, even though he only got involved because you needed to get picked up for that stupid little basketball game."Carson said making Coraline now get really mad.
"Since when was basketball stupid to you, Carson, that is the only thing we've ever loved doing since we were kids and you just don't care, this is not you!" Jared said.
"I don't care about anything else besides my master, the journal, it controls me and soon you, and then you'll see!" Carson pleaded.
" stop trying to save yourself and lets just get it over with" said Carson.
Chapter 10: The list
Coraline then noticed the front door was open, she tapped on Jared and he soon noticed what she was thinking, Carson not noticing kept talking on about killing them. Coraline quietly counted to three and they ran, out the door. A blur of trees, until they were back into the same spot as they were when they met Zoey. They stopped. Again Zoey was near a group of trees.
"So how did it work?" Zoey said excitedly.
"Not very well they are too, possessed." Coraline exclaimed.
"I say let's try 2." Coraline said not sighing anymore.
"Yeah, I guess anythings better than 3." Jared said.
"Alright then you have to find all the things on this list:
-Branches from a rare tree
-A page from the journal
-Your most precious possession
-A stone, a special one that is hidden with in, to find it you must read all of the journal and it may appear
Coraline thought, why would I have to read the journal for a stupid stone to appear, things don't just appear.
"Are you sure that the last thing on this list is right?" Coraline asked.
"I am not positive. It says so but just do it." Said Zoey.
"It's our last hope, we better get reading this thing weighs a ton." Jared said lifting the thick book.
Chapter 11: Reading of the journal
"You better go home it's getting late, I can read the journal." Coraline said to Jared.
Coraline walked quietly now to her house. It was nearly 8:00pm when she got back. She hurried up to her room and sat on her bed and began reading the journal, after a minute of reading she felt the evil spirit surrounding her like a bubble and if it popped the evil spirit would be released into her and she too would be possessed. Coraline started feeling horrible like she had just got the flu, except it wasn't. It was something worst. She closed the journal and through it on the ground, she didn't even remember what she had just read. She was breathing hard like she had just woke up from a scary dream, except hers was reality. She picked the journal up again, she really didn't want to read it, but she knew she had to, for her friends.
She started to read again and the same feeling had come. This time she had the urge to call Jared. "Help, Jared help, the book....." She hung up.
Jared got the message Coraline said when calling. Worried he came over, he found Coraline dead on the floor and a spirit had appeared. It was Coraline, "Don't worry I will try to stop them." Said the good spirit of Coraline.
"I will come with you."
"No, Jared you can't!"
"Well why not!"
The room went silent. Coraline picked up the journal and handed the journal to Jared. "It's your job to keep this safe." said Coraline.
"You have to read the whole thing, I will help you so that you won't become one of me." Coraline said said with a worried look. Jared opened it just as Coraline did before.
Then he closed it, "I'm worried." Jared said.
"I know."
He opened it again and started reading.
"I can't do it!" Jared said closing the journal. Then he stared at the wall.
"You have to do it or you will join me without even having to read it." Coraline said with an evil smirk.
Jared saw the same little evil spark in her eyes the same as his other possessed friends.
"This can't be happening." Jared said. The next minute Jared turned around and fell to his death, killed by Coraline herself.
"What did I just do!" Coraline said to herself. "That wasn't me!" She just thought for a bit. She was so flustered she didn't know what to do or say. She had just killed Jared.
Chapter 12: No One Left Standing
Coraline actually was really depressed about all this. Coraline knew what she had to do for her friendships.
"Jared listen to me, I didn't mean to, that was the evil talking, anyway I will read the journal and we can find the ingredients and make that potion." Coraline said still with a shocked look on her face.
"It's okay." Jared said forgivingly and patting her shoulder.
"You're so understanding." Coraline smiled.
Then Coraline noticed the window cracked open unlike when she got home hours ago. Meanwhile, Carson and Sarah were outside spying on Coraline. Coraline looked at Jared again, but this time when she looked at him his face wasn't nice and caring, he looked like he was about to destroy the world, which was exactly what he was plotting to do. He too, was now an evil spirit. He then saw the window open too. He looked out and saw Sarah and Carson, and he decided to join them.
"Jared, wait where are you?" Coraline started screaming.
"Wait, why am I calling for you, I'm glad that I killed you and have joined us."
She stumbled outside and joined them. Then, Zoey creeped up behind them. They weren't paying any attention due to there crazed minds so they didn't notice her at all. Zoey could tell what happened. Zoey knew. Her being one once she had all there is to know, she knew that the evil spirit would soon take over your whole life, and she knew the evil spirit had to be destroyed after all. But how. The evil spirit would soon destroy their life. Zoey decided that she had to destroy the journal as soon as possible, by burning it. Zoey ran upstairs to find the journal laying on the ground face up. She closed the book and picked it up. Zoey went downstairs to find the fire covered with glass. She had an idea... she picked up a base ball and chucked it at the fireplace. The glass shattered. She threw the journal in. But, It would not burn. They were in trouble now. Zoey didn't know what else to do she can't perform the lists ideas it had to be Coraline or one of her friends.
Chapter 13: No More Whispers
"Maybe I could convince them to stop the journal. Or not, I do know that it is hard to persuade a evil spirit, it's nearly an impossible mission." Zoey thought. Although, she didn't have much of a choice so she walked over to them.
"Oh look it's our little friend from the park." Jared said snickering.
"Yah, what's she doing here." Coraline smirked.
"She's come to join us, how nice." Carson added.
"Yes how wonderful." grinned Sarah.
"No, no, and no I'm just here to save us all, do you want the book to take over you or do you want to live on not in harm, you make your choice but just know you will never be the same if the journal does take over, our world won't be the same." Zoey said trying to stay calm.
"Who cares about the world, we can live in the eyes of the journal." Jared said shrugging.
"So true, when will the world ever realize that everyone is a stupid little brat." complained Coraline.
"And who cares about a few little trees or whatever, we don't need these things." added Sarah
"Yes, yes we do, they are what make us, well us!" Coraline said changing her mind and returning to being a good spirit.
"She's right, guys." Jared said standing next to Coraline.
"You know what, you are right Coraline." Sarah said joining them.
All who was left was Carson who had been a ghost for the longest of the four.
"What! What are you guys thinking." Carson said still as a evil spirit.
"Actually, you know I'm done being evil." Carson said being persuaded by the others.
"Nope, just kidding, who cares about the world." Carson laughed.
"Was that supposed to be a joke......" Coraline stared at him." " No ones laughing, cause if it was it wasn't funny!"
Then they all, looked to the direction of Coraline's house and heard a noise.
"Not again." Coraline said walking to the door. At the door was a spirit, the spirit was of Taylor, Coraline's sister. Coraline remembered all the fun times they've had together, dancing in the Nutcracker together three years in a row. The Nutcracker was Coraline and Taylor's favorite show to perform in, Coraline couldn't stand looking at her like this. "Would they not be able to perform the Nutcracker this year?" Coraline thought.
Chapter 14: Taylor's Return
"Well hello, sis." Taylor said smirking.
"Not you too." Coraline said. Coraline saw the evil in Taylor's chocolate colored eyes.
"Yes, I am an evil spirit if you were wondering."
"There is a choice you know." Coraline looked at her.
"I know and I choose the journal." Taylor grinned.
"I chose to be a good spirit and you can too." Coraline said. "Even Sarah, and Jared chose to be a good spirit."
"Why didn't Carson choose to be a good spirit?" Taylor said.
"I don't know, but all I know is that you're a good person."
"I don't care what you think, Coraline." Taylor chided.
"What do you mean, I'm your sister." Coraline looked down at her feet.
Sarah walked over, "Come on Coraline, we don't have much time."
They all gathered together to try to come up with a plan, well besides Carson and Taylor. Then Jared had an idea.
Chapter 15: The Storm
Everyone was lost when it came to coming up with a new ideas to stop the revolution of mindless spirits. As time passed in silence Coraline thought about different things. Coraline didn't know what to do with her sister, Taylor. What if the world really did come to an end and Taylor was in charge of it?
Knock! Knock! "You will let us in or else."
"What should we do!" Sarah whispered.
"Let's hide." Jared replied.
They ran to the closest hiding spot as the knocks became louder and the person behind the door began trying to knock the door down. Launching itself at the door the bolts of the door came undone and the wooden planks fell to the floor. A spirit walked inside. "I'm here to terminate you!... and all your friends."
Coraline and her friends didn't hear a thing. They were busily trying to find an open hiding spot somewhere upstairs. The spirit repeated itself, knowing that they were home. The spirit repeated once more, now screaming.
Jared looked up "What was that?"
"What?" whispered Coraline.
They all climbed downstairs wondering what was going on.
Downstairs it looked like a violent storm was beginning to form. Large spirals of grey cloud and sparks of lightning.
"Are you guys seeing this,..." Sarah said amazed.
"Yeah and I've got it all on film." Jared said smiling at her.
"What are you guys saying, this is not cool, there is a storm in my living room!,...there has to be someone behind this." Coraline looked at them.
"It's amazing," Taylor said walking in.
Taylor gave Coraline a short hug.
"So, you've decided to help us." Coraline smirked.
"Yeah, you're my sister, nothing could replace you, not even an evil journal controlling me." The evil glimmer had left Taylor's eye and she was now a good spirit.
Chapter 16: Almost There
"Taylor!" This time Coraline hugged her longer.
"Your back, and you're a good spirit." Coraline smiled even more.
"I know and it's the right choice, you were right." Taylor also smiled.
"Wow, you admitting I was right, that's a first." Coraline said sarcastically.
"Although, it's not over yet." Sarah jumped in.
"That's for sure." Jared joined.
They walked closer and closer to the rustic picket fence, not knowing what was on the other side.
Flying at them came a cloaked spirit in full speed. Coraline screamed and ran, and everyone followed close behind.
"What are we going to do!" Screamed Taylor.
More time passed.
The euphoria inside everyone wanted to escape and do a backflip. They leapt to their feet after hiding and had decided it was time to go find Zoey. So again they headed her direction. This time running, for they were way too frightened to slow down, if they knew or not there could have been a ghostly spirit following them anyway. As they gathered breaths they saw that Zoey was not to be found. The weather was brittle and cold and they were not sure if Zoey was well. If anything it would be best to start going over the plans and finding Zoey. As a storm of frost and ice made a dome around them, they tried to stay warm and stick together. Coraline saw a wet book flying through the storm. Squinting as the snow sprayed in their faces, Coraline jumped up to the grab the book, finding that it was the journal.

Chapter 17: The Next Step

Coraline wiped the moist journal off with her woolen gloves and looked to the others. They looked at her.
"I think we know what this is." Coraline said holding the journal up.
"How did it get here." Sarah exclaimed.
"No idea." Jared sighed.
Coraline shuffled through the pages, while doing so she had realized that on page 23 there was a hidden note in the binding. It was a note from her mother to her. It said... "if you believe that I am still with you. You will stay safe but if you decide not to believe in me than you will forever be in danger."
Coraline sighed and thought again about her mother, how happy she always was, how her grin cheered her up, and something Coraline doesn't speak of, Sarah didn't even know. She thought about how her mother died, a blame towards the journal. Now out to get the next victim, Coraline.
