Chapter 22:
Coraline had to do something. She was losing time. In no time the journal could have taken over the world. Then it would be too late. She wouldn't be able to live with herself knowing that she could have done something to save her friends and the world from the journal. She knew its powers, they were strong, but know one else knew them as well as her. She looked at the dark window inside the house, black fabric swept across the dirt covered glass. It was a spirit, they had come back, they were back to finish what they had started. Their black cloaks were hardly visible as the day started to fade away. The door slide open and she saw a glimpse of the spirit, then it flushed away. Bright flames started in the corner. They grew larger and larger. Coraline ran to the door for an attempt of escape. Her boots were slick on the cold icy sidewalk outside the door of the house. She watched as the fire grew larger and came flooding out burning the wood on the outside to the crisp. Her house was gone in minutes and the journal started it all. She heard a scream from the house. But who was it? The house collapsed. And she never knew who it was, until now. When all of her friends came over to where her house once stood. All but one friend. Sarah. Sarah was not there. Jared and Carson stood there with no expression on their face. They were both as pale as snow. It was as if they had seen a ghost. But they did but worse. It looked like Carson and Jared didn't know what had just happened, but she knew they did. Maybe their blank faces were their way of covering up what they didn't want to think. Then Coraline saw something walking towards them. Sarah walked over again as a ghost.
"The journal has returned to me, and it is over for you."
"You can't hurt us, and we won't hurt you, we know who you are inside and that's all that matters, the journal can not change what's inside, you just have to find it again."
"Your right, Coraline." Sarah returned to normal.
"Good we are all normal again, we actually will have a chance to defeat the journal finally." Carson said happily.
"So what do we do next." Sarah mentioned.
"Let's split up to find the journal,..."
Just then Zoey walked in.
"Are you all okay, I saw a burning house from the woods and wondered if the journal was up to something, again."
"Were fine."
"Okay as I was saying before we could split into groups, how about Jared and me will look through the house and Sarah, Carson, and Zoey look around town."
"Okay, we can meet back here." Jared said moving closer to the crisp wood pieces. Jared and Coraline began looking through the pieces of burnt wood for anything possibly they could use. Sarah and Carson and Zoey also began looking.
"Do you think we will be okay." Coraline said picking up a fried boot.
"Yeah, we have eachother."
"I still just don't know what to do after we find the journal again."
"We will know when it happens, you will know what to do, you always do."
"Yeah, your right."
Zoey and Carson and Sarah had not found a thing after more than thirty minutes of tiredly looking.
"Do you think we will find anything?" Carson said looking around.
"We can't lose hope." Sarah replied.
Zoey wandered off.
"You're right."
"What if we can't find anything though."
"I don't know." said Zoey walking in.
"I hope Coraline has a plan, she always does." said Sarah now getting a little worried.
"Do you think we should go back."
"Let's keep looking."
"Okay."
They continued to look for the journal.
"Carson, do you think it disappeared when the house burned down."
"Maybe."
"Yeah."
