At least he's cute.

He hated being set up. He wasn't even sure why he had let Kirstie talk him into this. When he had said "I owe you one," he had never imagined she'd cash in her favor on setting him up with a friend of Jeremy's. At least Kirstie and Jeremy were there for conversation.

The entire ride over to the restaurant had been uncomfortably awkward. The guy was apparently not very social and every time he tried to start up a conversation it just got more and more strange. How the heck was Jeremy friends with this guy?!

He had very nearly kissed the ground when they finally reached their destination and he was able to get out of the enclosed vehicle and take in some fresh air. This was so tedious.

The restaurant really wasn't any better. He wasn't sure who the heck had chosen it as he Kirstie and Jeremy weren't really the 'fancy' type. It must have been Nicholas, (God forbid you call him Nick. Don't... just don't or you'll never get away!)  the uptight something or other. He hadn't really cared to retain his info, but he certainly seemed the suit and tie, 'let me flaunt my money to make you like me', kind of guy.

Stop being such a pri¢k, just give the poor guy a chance.

The hostess found the reservations that, surprise, Nicholas had made for them and they soon found themselves in a gorgeous room, complete with candlelight and romantic ambiance. Scott immediately felt out of place. He took extra care not to make a fool of himself by falling into anything or knocking anything over. That would be his luck. (Well, maybe it would get him out of this wreck of a 'date')

Thankfully Nicholas didn't try to pull out his chair for him or anything, but that was more than likely partially due to the fact that he'd practically thrown himself into the vacant seat.

The chatter died down as they looked at their menus, Scott inwardly cringing at the lack of pricing. That was never a good sign. He was brought out of his decision making by a voice he didn't recognize.

Apparently the waiter had arrived and was taking drink orders. He stopped really listening, he was too busy admiring the adorable (albeit fake) smile that belonged to said waiter. When brown eyes turned towards him he was momentarily enchanted by the reflection of candlelight there in their depths, but he quickly realized the man was waiting for him to speak. He blushed a bit, realizing the guy probably thought he was a freak, but the slight adjustment in smirk and eyebrow made his heart flutter.

"Just water please." He had wanted a glass of wine to help him tolerate the bland man to his left, but his brain was a little too distracted by dimples to come up with anything to order.

The cute guy gave him a small nod, chin dipping a bit and the corner of his mouth creeping up even higher before he turned to Nicholas. It was probably a good thing Scott hadn't ordered wine because his 'date' (eye roll) asked for an entire bottle for their table.

The waiter nodded, eyes slipping quickly back over to Scott who was, like a crazy person, still staring. He tried to look away, he really did, but he was intrigued by this man. He had barely heard him speak and he was far more interested in that guy than he was the man he was on a date with. He kept his eyes on him even as he turned and walked away.

He tried to focus on current conversation, but his mind was definitely elsewhere. He didn't fail to catch the knowing look Kirstie shot his way. She knew him well enough to catch the signs of his interest in their server. Too bad he was already on a date. (gag)

He decided to actually TRY to put in effort and listen to Nicholas, but it was so incredibly hard. He was talking about atoms and how everyone had them or something ridiculous...

I've had an Adam before, not exactly a thrill. Next topic.

_______

He sighed dramatically as he stepped back into the kitchen, leaning against the wall.

"What's got your panties in a twist?" Esther hurried past him as she checked on her tables order.

"The man of my fu¢king dreams just walked in and, of course, he's already with tall gorgeous and made of money." He pouted.

"Sure he's with him?"

"If googly eyes next to him is any indication then yeah. It's definitely a double date." He sneered.

"Which table? I wanna see!"

"Wanna fill up an ice bucket? You can tag along and get an eyeful. He's worth it."

She just grinned and went in search of the ice bucket.

_______

His eyes and his focus strayed once again as the waiter returned with their drinks and a second, a woman this time, appeared with an ice bucket stand and their wine. Of course Scott followed the motions of their original server, and when he moved around the table, stepping closer to pour his drink for him, he could smell his cologne and it just seemed to punctuate his obsession with the stranger. It didn't help that when the waiter caught his eye his smile slipped to a smirk and Scott knew the boy was completely on to him. The red in his cheeks was, hopefully, masked by the candlelight, but one really couldn't be sure.

_________

"Ohhhh he is sooo pretty."

"Thanks for rubbing it in. Rejoice in my misery."

"Babe he may be on a date, but it was you he had his eyes on."

"Stoooooppp. He may have been watching, but that doesn't help mommy take care of business now does it."

She laughed and went to deliver food to her own table.

He pouted again, sighing to himself. That guy had all of the checks in all of the right boxes, y'know except the one marked 'single'. That was always his luck.

__________

"So Scott, I hear you're a special effects creator."

He nodded. "That I am."

"Jeremy says you've been working on that tv show everyone's been talking about."

He nodded, knowing this guy had never ever seen an episode of American Horror Story in his life.  "It's doing pretty well."

"Do you enjoy it?"

"I love it. It lets me be me, let's me be creative and out there. Plus the people are amazing."

The uptight man sipped his wine and nodded, subject switching back to his own profession. Scott could barely keep his mind from wandering, but thankfully Jeremy filled in the blank spaces when he stopped paying attention.

Then appetizers arrived and he got another glimpse at the waiter. He wished he had a name tag or something so he could have some indication of what to call him. He felt like such a creep staring at him but as he walked away the cheeky brunette turned to look over his shoulder, eyes meeting Scott's and his lips turning up into a grin, and gave a quick wink before he disappeared.

Scott couldn't stop his smile. Now that he knew the mystery man was ready to play, he couldn't wait for him to return.

Let the games begin.
