Chapter 18 : Reunion and sticking together

NATO base, Punterenas, Costa Rica

It was the next day, late in the morning. Gray was laying his head on Claire's lap and Zach was sitting next to them. Next to them were Melissa Hunter, Chelsea Hemmingway and her two daughters Mandy and Lily. Julie was sitting on a Marine's bunk to wait for her mother.

Outside the and inside the base, several military personel from 45 nations were patrolling with their guns ready for a fight.

Claire looked up and saw a US Marine checking the IDs of Karen and Scott. After the Marine private gave them back their cards, the two of them rushed to Claire and their children. "God, it's your parents." she told them. Zach and Gray stood up immediately and gave a bear hug to their parents.

Then John, Chelsea's husband came across the same US Marine and after being admitted came to hug his children and his wife. Julie's mother did the same to her daughter

Not far from here, Owen saw Claire hugging her sister, while Sasha, in full combat equipment, presented her ID, saluted the Marine and came in the room. Only to come face to face with her father and Donny. "So about the recommendation?" he asked. Unexpectedly her answer was "Yes I do. I do wanna be a Navy SEAL.". "When?" Donny asked again. "In two years. By then, the Navy will have made a man out of me." Sasha answered. Then Donny and Sasha shook their hand while the DEVGRU Chief said, "Welcome aboard, Tick-Tock." Sasha just smiled as she finally was called by her nickname.

"There she is!" Julie told her mother pointing to Sasha. Mrs. Markinson, as well as the Hemmingway family, Claire and the Mitchells rushed towards Sasha. Julie began the conversation, "Hey Sasha, I want to join the US Navy after what you have done". "Wait til you're 17." Sasha told the teen. Then Mandy took Gray appart, much to Sasha's surprise and to their respective family's pleasure. "I wanted to say you a thing Gray." the 12-year-old girl told him, "What is it then?" the 12-year-old boy asked. "I have fallen for you Gray. In this ordeal, I found out my mother was right all along. You are THE boy Gray." Mandy answered. The two of them then got closer and, to Sasha's disgust, they shared their first lenghty kiss.

It was now up to Owen and Claire to talk. "So what do we do now?" Claire asked. "We stick together. For survival." Owen answered. Claire and Owen walked away from the crowd, which felt a mix of tiredness because of the ordeal, and gratefulness towards them.

Then Sasha linked up with her father and exited the building.
