"YEEEEEEE HAW!" Yelled San, who was beginning to get used to the boat's controls. The weather had gotten a lot hotter in the last hour, and Wooyoung had unbuttoned the first three buttons of his white shirt. Even with the strong wind caused by the velocity of the boat, the sun still beamed brightly, making them both sweat.
They suddenly slowed down, San wanting to take a break. He sat next to his dongsaeng, wiping his forehead with the sleeve of his shirt. "It's been a while," he smiled. But Wooyoung didn't seem as happy, opening his mouth to say something. "If you complain that it's hot one more time, i'm going to give you a reason to sweat," plainly cut San on the same tone. Wooyoung scoffed, but couldn't hide the slight smirk on his lips, as he rose his head and closed his eyes.
"At least I hope we don't burn alive and come back looking like lobsters."
"I could lie to you but I'll be forward and point out that we didn't think about putting any sunscreen on," stated San.
Fortunately, Wooyoung didn't get to complain much longer, as of a few minutes later, the sky finally clouded, blocking the sun's vicious rays. The two boys were still talking at the back of the boat, when San felt a rain drop on his nose.
"Woops I think it's going to rain."
"Wait what?" Chuckled Wooyoung, skeptical. "The sky was clear like half an hour ago."
"Welp," began the older, getting back to the controls. "The weather changes really quick, down here." And as if on cue, a light rain began to poor, making Wooyoung even more astonished. They had gone far from the marina, and it would surely take time to get back to the docks.
"Dammit," incredulously cried the younger, as the rain intensified. His purple hair was now damp, sticking to his forehead like his shirt to his skin.
"Well that just scrambles my eggs," grumbled San, making his dongsaeng cringe.
"Will you stop saying stuff like this?"
San focused on driving the boat, sometimes shooting an amused glance at the boy behind him. The sky was now a deep shade of blue, as they made their way back to the docks, which were still too far to be seen.
Suddenly, the engine stuttered and abruptly stopped. "What now?" Wailed Wooyoung, letting his head fall back, hands hiding his face.
San held back a laugh at the irony of the situation. "I think something's clogging the motor."
They both defiantly stared at each other, knowing one of them would have to dive and unclog the engine. A long silence followed, broken only by the constant din of the rain on the deck.
"Rock paper scissors," they blurted at the same time, lunging to face one another.
"Don't worry, I'll go easy on you," grinned Wooyoung.
"Is that so?" Replied San, cocking his head to the side. "I always win at this."
"We'll see. Rock, paper, scissors!"
Wooyoung gasped, blankly stared at their hands for a few seconds, before whining: "That is absolutely not fair."
"HUH THAT'S RIGHT!" Raved the older, dancing as best as he could around the slippery deck, while Wooyoung threw a look into the agitated waters. "AWWW YEAH BABY!"
"There aren't sharks in this area, right...?"
"Nope sir."
Wooyoung sighed, before stepping on the edge of the boat and jumping off. He then resurfaced after a few seconds, shouting to San that seaweed was entangled in the motor. The blond waited while his dongsaeng fought with the ruthless weeds, which were 'as hard as wood oh my god I'm never trusting you again.' By the time Wooyoung hopped back on the boat, the sky had gotten almost black and the rain was heavier than ever.
"At least there isn't lightning!" Yelled San to cover the deafening sound of the storm, as he went on guiding the boat through the hostile waves.
"Yeah, that's disappointing!" Sarcastically answered the other, rolling his eyes.
They finally made it back to the marina, San tying the boat to the dock while Wooyoung gratefully jumped off the nightmare ride. They then ran as fast as they could toward the nearest café.
"This is going to sound controversial but i think that went well."
"You are joking"
They were sitting at the terrasse outside a café, drenched and sipping hot chocolate.
"I am not," San snapped back, taking another sip of the drink, gladly welcoming the warmth. "I didn't think I could drive a boat! See, we learned something today."
"I wonder how you can be so positive when your shoes make that disgusting sound." To prove his point, Wooyoung moved the weight of his foot from left to right, looking his hyung in the eyes while doing so. San winced at the unpleasant squishy noise that accompanied the movement.
"Okay, okay stop this!" He shook his head, scoffing. "I guess it just feels good to be back you know?" An apologetic smile followed his words. "Besides, at least you didn't have your phone with you!"
"I don't have a phone, dummy," informed the other.
"Huh?"
"I thought you knew! Why do you think I always use actual phones to communicate?"
San frowned. "Yeah, that makes sense... Why don't you have one, though?" He immediately bit his lip, realizing his question might seem a tad personal. "I-I mean don't feel forced to answer," he awkwardly stammered, gesturing with his hand that it wasn't important.
"It's okay," assured the younger, running a hand through his now drying hair. "My family's a bit... Financially unstable is all."
The blond instantly felt bad, knowing he'd accidentally brought up a sensitive topic. "Well..." He wasn't certain what to say. "If you want, I can repay you for the trip!"
"You will not." Wooyoung shook his head. "It wasn't that expensive anyway." San reluctantly nodded, and chose to not go further. "Now let's find that hotel!" Suddenly declared the younger, standing up to walk away.
"We didn't pay," snorted San.
Wooyoung turned on his heels and walked back inside the shop, paying with the few won bills the other had given him beforehand. "I am fully convinced you never graduated kindergaden," declared San, when his dongsaeng walked back out."And what about it?"
The rain had stopped when they left the café, progressing side to side in a comfortable silence. San was thinking, eyes lost into the clouds that stretched before them like a painting. He felt guilty. Whenever he and Wooyoung were together, he'd always be the one reluctant, the one complaining. During the short amount of time they'd spent together, Wooyoung had always been cheerful, trying his best to make him forget about Yunho. And yet, San seemed to know little to nothing about the other male. Was he that 'financially unstable'? Did his family need help?
He didn't have time to brood very long, since they approached their motel less than twenty minutes after leaving the café. "Here we are," Wooyoung asserted. After the whole boat fiasco, he had grown a bit tired and his voice showed it.
He still gave his hyung a genuine smile, before taking the lead inside the motel.
