Chapter 1
My life was so simple. So happy back then. Before he came into my life. Let me start from the beginning. Where it all started.
"Leslie, come eat your breakfast before you have to go!" my mom yelled from downstairs in her Tennessee accent. My mother was born and raised in Tennessee. That's where she met my dad and fell in love. They moved to Virginia when they had their first child. Leslie Faith Carter. A.k.a me. My mother always goes on about how lucky I am to have been born with wavy jet black hair and green eyes since all my other siblings have Straight brown hair and blue eyes. Guess, I got the good genes. I'm the oldest of the five Carter kids. Standing at 16 years old.
I raced down the stairs wearing my favorite red blouse and jeans with my sneakers. In my family, we're not able to wear skirts unless they are down to your knees. No shorter. My jet black hair was pulled up into a tight ponytail with a little twist in the front. I don't wear makeup. Mom doesn't allow us to wear makeup. She thinks girls who wear makeup are insecure about themselves and have low self esteem.
I grabbed a granoala bar and gave my mom a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Hey, I didn't make this breakfast so no one would eat it!" Mom exclaimed.
"Love ya, Mom," I told her. Then, I was out the door and into my dad's car.I saw Stacy (6-year old sister; youngest;), my twin brothers Mark(8-year old brother)and James(8 year-old brother), and Jennifer(13 year old sister) sitting in the back seat. I smiled.
"Lili, you're going to take me to the zoo today, right!" Stacy exclaimed, as my dad started driving. I loved Stacy. She was such a sweetheart.
"Of course, what else would I be doing," I grinned."Jen, mom wants you to come home right after school to watch Mark and James".
"Why can't you do it?" Jen groaned.
"I'm going out with Eric after school," I said.
"It's not fair! I have a life too," she protested.
"Yeah, flirting with every guy you see," I teased.
"At least I get attention from guys," she shot back. I glared at her.
"I get attention from guys okay. I just don't use my body to get that"."
I'm just saying. Sixteen and you still don't have a boyfriend".She hopped out the car with a grim look on her face. The elementary school is grades 1-8 so we only had to make one stop. The high school’s just around the corner.
I’m not allowed to have a boyfriend. I’m not allowed to hang out with boys in general actually. They only let me hang out with Eric because he’s gay. I’m only allowed to talk to boys in school.
“Don’t listen to her. You don’t need boys,” he stated. I know I don’t.
“I know, I’m just really nervous about the assemble,” I said.
I have to give this whole speech on like the dess code and stuff since I'm Class President. My dad stopped a block away from the school. My dad's the principal and he doesn't want people to know that because it could cause problems.
“You’ll do fine. Right when you get in the school you can practice with the mic,” he suggested.”I love you”. He gave me a kiss on the cheek. I opened the door and saw Eric waiting for me on the steps. He looked the same blonde hair brushed to the side, plaid shirt buttoned up besides one, and jeans. I walked over to him and he pulled me into a hug. We started walking towards the school.
