Jean
I groaned, frustrated and chucked another of my screenplays into the fire as Paige did the same with the canvas to another one of her failed artworks. "How in the name of glorious fucking hell are we going to pay last year's rent?" I complained to no one.

Paige snorted, looking at me. "We can't Jean. We have nothing. No money, no power, no heat-" She threw another canvas into the fire. "Next thing you know Raven's going to demand me as payment. Again."

I glared at the door. "If she tries, she's dead." I growled as I dropped a stack of screenplays into the fire. "Well, that should keep burning for another half an hour a least. We're going to need to find more things to burn though soon, I already can't feel my feet."

Paige sighed. "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to us, I suppose."

I nodded as the phone rang for the fourth time this evening. I picked it up. "Hello- Scarlet?" I listened for a moment. "Your equipment won't work? Okay, okay, I'll go." I sighed and slammed the phone back down. "How the hell are we supposed to leave the past behind when it keeps finding ways to creep up on us like this?" I muttered, walking over to slip on my coat. "Will you be okay here?" I asked, turning to look at Paige with concern lighting my gaze.

"Yeah, yeah I'll be fine." Paige forced a smile at me, thinking I couldn't tell it was faked, but I had no time to press her about it, so I just nodded and left the building, heading toward the vacant lot where Scarlet would perform tonight. I made sure my camera was in my pocket. Maybe tonight wouldn't be a complete loss.
