The sirens blare and the lights flash as two security guards and a nurse chase down Samara Kane, an escaping mental patient. Samara has been in the Ararat Lunatic Asylum for at least two and a half years after an incident with a threat to kill her friends and little sister, which results from her deep depression and the idea of nobody wanting to help her. After being taken away from her family, all that was left was her parents and little sister Presley. She picks up speed and hides in the woods near the Asylum. The two security guards keep chasing her while the nurse slowly follows behind trying to keep up. She continues running until she reaches the end of the woods and somehow makes it to the highway. She quickly turns to see the security guards and the nurse making their way towards her. A dark blue pickup stops right along the highway.
"Need a ride?" a friendly old man asked as he rolled down the window. Samara just nods and hurries into the truck.
She sits beside a short, blonde and grey-haired old woman who must be the friendly old man's wife. The security guards and the nurse just stop at the end of the woods and stand as they watch Samara take off. They are already afraid of losing their jobs now.
"What's your name, sweetheart?" the old lady sitting beside Samara asked.
She just stares at the lady for a minute.
"...Samara" she hesitated to say.
"Samara, what a nice name" said the old lady with a smile.
She turns her head away and stares out of the winshield, not making any contact with the elderly people.
"Where do you live hun?" the old man asked.
Samara hesitates to answer again, "Just drop me off over here"
She points to a random house on the corner by a football field.
"This house here on the corner?" the old man asked.
Samara nods and points again at the house, "Yeah, this one".
They stop right in front of the house and the old lady gets out of the truck and lets Samara out.
"You be careful out there, crazy kids tend to come out on halloween night" said the old lady as she sat back in her seat beside her husband and shut the door, leaving the window rolled down.
Samara just stares at the lady and nods before turning around and walking towards the house. She sits on the porch and watches the elderly couple drive away. She stares all around for a second, and then gets up after a few minutes and begins walking. She walks up the street and just continues onward. Her main objective now is to get back home, but unfortunately her home is all the way in Augora Hills, California and she is in Carson City, Nevada. The only way to get there now is by walking, and she didn't want to make the elderly couple drive all the way up there. She wants to do this on her own, without somebody's help because she assumed nobody would help her get home. She's used to having nobody help her. She keeps walking until she finds the parking lot that's nearby the football field, and she sees a random old car just sitting there. She searches and looks in the inside to find the keys still sitting in the ignition. She opens the car door and sits down in the driver's seat, putting her hands on the steering wheel. She looks down beside her and notices a pocket knife sitting in the passenger's seat. She picks it up and looks at the knife for a second while opening it up and looking at the blade. She puts the knife back in and sticks it in her pocket. After sitting in the old what looks like it to be a ford mustang, she slowly turns the key in the ignition and starts the car. If this is the only way she can get to Augora Hills, Samara was going to do it.-----------------------
At the Ararat Lunatic Asylum, doctors are searching through records and calling the police and doing everything they can do to find out where Samara is.
"Where is she?" The owner of the Asylum asked the two security guards that were chasing Samara down earlier.
One of the security guards who was bigger and had muscles hesitated to answer at first, "we really don't know where she is. We chased her, but she got away somehow".
The owner glances over at the other guard and gives him a stern look.
"How about you, do you know where Samara is?" he asked.
"N-no sir, Bruce is right, we really don't know where Samara is right now. We tried to catch her but she took off in a truck before we could get to her" said the other guard.
The tension rises in the owner's face and even when he speaks, it shows.
"You are aware that I can instantly remove you from your position because of the fact that you couldn't catch an escaping patient, right? Don't you know how much money I invest in this place to just be able to keep these people here? This is a government job, and the more patients we lose the less money I make" said the owner.
"Sir, it wasn't our-"
"I don't care who's fault it was, you both better find her and bring her back here. And if you don't, well then I guess you won't be getting your pay raises" said the owner before he gave another stern look at the guards and then turned and walked away.--------------------------------------------------------
