“What the hell do we do?” Caden whispered to Jasmine.
“We definitely shouldn’t be whispering. that’ll just tell her where we are.”
“I think I’m gonna try to find some wiring and shock it with the lightning bolt. It could ruin her computer, then she won't be able to use any of her technology against us.”
“Didn’t she say something about building a machine? That information could be valuable. I don’t think you should break the computer.”
“What if I threaten to break it and you gte her from behind?”
“I like that plan.”
Caden gave an assertive nod and shoved himself over to where the computer should be under him. Using the power of Cheristy, he rubbed his hand on the metal, turning mechanical energy into thermal energy and melting the ceiling.
“Here, Caden,” JAsmine shout-whispered, and tossed him a, “dangling modifier,” so he could go through the hole without falling. “Use this.”
Caden hooked the dangling modifier to the top of the ceiling and lowered himself into the room, next to the computer. To his amazement, the child was standing across the room, gun in hand, looking for them. Caden summoned the lightning bolt and turned to the computer. A collection of flash drives was next to him. Caden picked out the shiniest one and inserted it into the only available port.
The computer had about four monitors that spanned across the wall. One what has been on a wikipedia page about a chineese tech development company, one had the new york stock exchange, the third was on autodesk inventor, and the fourth one was on email.
Caden went to the files stored on the computer. What the hell am I even looking for here? he thought to himself, A file that says, ‘I’m one of the children of kushiva and this is my dark, evil plan’? Caden, frantically searching in a folder named, “work,” came across another folder titled, “Laser.” I’ll download the document now and check it later. Caden dragged the folder to the flash drive.
“Hey!” Caden’s blood ran cold as a voice shouted behind them, “What do you think you’re doing..” Caden swung himself around and grabbed the lightning bolt as the child began to walk towards him.
“Stay back or you’ll be buying a new computer!” The child stopped in her tracks when she saw the lightning bolt.
“It was you…” She said, “But you’re just… You’re just a kid. I knew you were a kid, I just… I didn’t want to believe it. We always Peterson that she needed to be stronger. I myself never gained the abilities that my siblings had.” Caden positioned himself, ready to fight, but the child kept monologuing as villains do. “I understood machines, but you can’t just talk to a machine, they have their own language, so I learned how to speak to them. I’m the greatest Robotics and SOftware engineer you’ll ever meet. Sure Smith can fly, and Peterson had the lightning bolt, but I could have anything I wanted, I just have to build it.”
Caden felt the mood in her words change. It suddenly felt as if the tables had turned. And then he watched the person before him vanish, as if she had never been there (if it’s not obvious, I recently watched the second spider man movie. it was pretty good. I totally called the, “twist,” though). at the end of the room, from around the corner, can the child again, this time, holding Jasmine in a headlock, gun to her throat.
“Jasmine!,” Caden cried out running toward her.
“One more step and she dies!” The child called out. Caden froze about ten steps into his sprint. He could see the rope that had been tied across JAsmine's mouth so she could speak. “You like my hologram? Terribly realistic isn't it?”
