I crumble completely

Alex Turner tapped his foot as he sat on the couch in the tour bus alone. Everyone else went to the closest bar to celebrate the last night of the tour. Of course, Alex was overjoyed with the success his band was earning, but he couldn't think when his mind kept replaying her voice.

He had written down the exact address, but he knew the words could never leave his brain. The way she bit her lip as she told him. Their last kiss before he had to leave. Alex thought he was always ready to go back, as he gripped the cold microphone and looked out onto the crowd, he always searched for her face. As if maybe, she'd be there looking for him.

He hated texting, he hated phone calls. He only wanted to talk if it was face to face. How could they be face to face if she was in Sheffield while he was in New York? He searched every billboard looking for her. She deserved to be on every single one.

Their last conversation was on an endless loop for him.

"I still love ya!" He shouted.

"Then why are we breaking up?"She cried.

"I'm goin' on tour 'cross America for half a year! You don't deserve to be stuck with me." He felt his voice rise.

"If I didn't think I needed you, why would I still be with you?! After everything! Everything!" At that point she wasn't mad, she was defeated. She clenched her fists and collapsed onto her couch. Alex had spent many nights with her in that apartment.

"I don't know! You tell me!" He said, but his voice cracked and he felt tears rising.

"Because I love you, Alex! I know I'm bloody stupid." She covered her face in her hands and rocked back and forth. His eyes widened. He loved her but was rendered speechless. Tears began rolling down his hot cheeks. His jaw was clenched shut so she couldn't tell how broken he was too. He was crumbling.

On the bus, he was shaking, just like he was that night. He went to his bed and searched in his bag for cigarettes. He patted for the small box, but his fingers fluttered by a piece of crumpled paper. It was a letter from her. He leaned again the wall to keep his hands steady enough to read her careful writing.

Dear Alex,

Hope you're having fun in America. If I know you well enough you probably found this the night after your last show, you're always funny like that. I miss you even though I'm looking at you as I write this. I'm counting down the days till you come home. I'll be waiting in room 505, you know the one.

Love you, xx

"Fuck, I've messed up." He mumbled to himself. He checked his phone and saw the next flight home was in 2 hours, with a few seats left. He bought one and quickly threw everything in his bag. He sent a text to the Arctic Monkeys group chat I'm going home tonight, I'll see you guys soon. Hopefully, they'd understand. He threw the bus door open and quickly grabbed the closest taxi.
