Alexia had positioned herself in the window seat of Rowland's hospital room overlooking the military compound where men and machinery were going about their day.
She desperately hated hospitals, the smells, sights and sounds of sickness assaulted her. It had been two days since they had left the manor and she had not slept. Phillip's department head had deflected any attempts Blain had made to get to her, Rowland or Minnie.
Rowland was yet to regain consciousness; Markus had been a fairly constant presence, reassuring her he was no longer in danger. They were now just waiting for him to wake up.
The sounds of scuffles disturbed her introspective thoughts, she rose and walked into the hallway to find Toku and four big men she did not recognise pushing against each other outside Minnie's room.
She strode forward. "What the Hell, Gentlemen STAND DOWN," though her words were not loud everyone stopped immediately and stepped back from each other. Any sergeant major would have been proud of the command in her voice.
She now stood among giants, Toku one side of the hall and the four men the other side.
"What is going on?" Alexia put on her best school teacher demeanour and eyed each of the men, which had all of them looking away.
Before any could answer the door of Minnie's hospital room opened and an older gentleman who looked to be in his late sixties emerged from the room. Alexia knew exactly who he was.
"Chief Williams, good day." She greeted.
"Good day Miss Kingstone," his deep accent was warm, "Well gentleman I think the lovely lady asked you a question and you are yet to answer."
"Pa, this man thinks he can visit, our Minnie." The large man sporting a Marine uniform spoke up.
Before Toku could speak Alexia raised one hand to silence him.
"Chief Williams, while you don't really know me I hope you can believe that this man is more than worthy to visit Minnie. He has been my bodyguard for the past ten years and he has nothing but respect for women and was the one who rescued your daughter."
Toku's chocolate cheeks had heated producing a blush that had the other four men which Alexia assumed were Minnie's brothers sniggering. Chief Williams simply stepped up and clipped each of the big men on the back of the head with a time-honoured Gibbs slap.
"Quiet you rabble I taught you better respect than that, a lady is speaking." His tone was harsh.
"Daddy!" Minnie's sweet tones called from the room. "If those wanking brothers of mine don't let Toku in, tell them I'm going to use their arses for target practice."
The Chief turned to Alexia with a huge smile "Point is mute Miss Kingstone, the decision is made."
He stepped aside and allowed Toku to enter the room, closing the door behind him. "Miss Kingstone, we owe you a debt we can never repay, you ever need us we will be there."
All Alexia's could do was nod her head as her throat had tightened. He then pushed his sons away from Minnie's door towards the small cafeteria.
