Prologue

I stare out the old, dirty window covered in cob-webs and condensation. The plastic covering the window ledge is peeling, making me tempted to pick at it but I cant. I watch years and years worth of dust pile onto the ledge and watch dozens of spiders crawl down the wall and onto the floorboards. My eyes follow the biggest one as it scurries towards my closet door.

My closet.

I shake away the memory and stare back out the window. I don't know how long I've stood here. It's hard to count days, weeks, months. It's hard to count days when they just stay the same. I count by seasons, Winter to be exact. That's my favourite time of year, it's also my surname.

Forty two winters have gone by.

That's forty two years.

I look over at the 'FOR SALE' sign perched at the front of the garden. The same one thats been there since 1976. Only up until a couple of weeks ago, now has a 'SOLD' plank across it. The new owners of our house will be moving in.

The first family to move into The Haunted Winters House in 42 years.
