There I was again, frozen by fear. I started poring sweat and my ponytail was matted to my neck with rain water. I see the men come around the corner. Then they start sprinting for me, this was my cue to run. And I did.
I whip around as they reach for me and take off as fast as I could.
I hear them running behind me. One is breathing very heavy, bald and intimidating. The one a few feet behind him was very round and sweaty, swearing under his breath. Let's not talk about this lets just keep running.
I make a few more turns then I realize I have lost them. I bend down and put my hands on my knees to catch some air. Then i feel something grab my ankle and drag me to the floor, a sharp pain spreads threw my back. I find myself sliding into a box into the wall. I pick my head up and look at the person or thing dragging me, and to my surprise. It was Oliver. He brings me to the inside behind him and covers my mouth with his hands.
"Ssshhhh! Don't speak" he whispers. I really didn't feel like speaking at all, just whimper in pain. Are heads are pressed together and our knees scrape the roof of the indentation in the wall. Vines cover the opening so nothing can see us.
I rest my head on Oliver's shoulder and he rests his head on my head. He keeps making the shooshing sound whenever I try to speak. But then with a gurgle he finally speak.
"Whatever happens, I don't want you to say a word. Do your hear me." He whispered into my ear with his hot sweaty breath. What if something does happen? Will I loose him? Will he die? If he does then I swear I will jump off the cliff. I nod to him and rest my head back on his shoulder. He nods and the leans his head against the cold cracked sandstone.
We hear the footsteps and murmuring again. Our little corner space goes dead silent. Oliver closes his eyes and doesn't move at all and I feel his body go limp. Suddenly the footsteps and voices stop. Are they gone? I realized it was a trap when four hands popped out at us and grabbed Oliver by the jacket and dragged him out. I start yanking and kicking, but his jacket slips threw my fingers and he's gone. I here Oliver screaming, I want to scream but I told him I wouldn't say a word. I listen to Oliver scream and kick and the sounds of combat boots dragging across the floor.
"Let me go! Let me go or I swear I'll kill you!" I've never heard him like this.
"Yeah, well shut up boy or the boss will kill you too!" That's the last I heard of them. It sounded like they just disappeared off the face of the earth. I peak my head out and not a trace of them was left. So I crawled back in.
All of a sudden I feel cold, broken, alone. I feel the tears travel into my eyes and run down my cheeks. But no sound, not even a wince. I just sit there and cry. They took him from he, stole him from me. I bawled my eyes out for several minutes. Maybe even an hour or two. I cried myself to sleep. But the only thing that was racing threw my mind was, I'm never going to see Oliver again.
