Armin's POV
I changed after my parents died. I barely knew them and I witnessed them die when I was 10. They were so smart it was admirable. I did admire them... I promised myself I wouldn't waste the life they gave me. I study hard because they did. I used to be so happy... not so much anymore. Reality sucks.
I woke with a start. I had a nightmare... it wasn't rare.
I looked at the clock 3 a.m.
I sighed as I got out of bed to go get something from the vending machine. I lived in a dorm so it wasn't too far away. As I walked toward it, I heard sniffling... like someone was crying. She was in between the vending machine and the wall, hugging her knees, a careless expression on her face.
"Hey." I whispered.
She looked at me, startled.
"You should get back to your dorm..."
She looked back at the floor and shook her head.
"Is everything okay?" I asked.
She shook her head again.
I sat in front of her. "What's your name?"
"I don't know." She said, her voice was quiet.
"How did you get here?"
"I don't know." She said again. "I have this feeling...." her eyes blinked very slowly. She rested her head on her knees and closed her eyes.
"Hey..."
No answer. She was sleeping.
I can't let a girl like her out here alone defenseless. I carried her and placed her on my bed and I took the floor.
"Good night"
I woke up because of a new dream. I saw my parents... they said "Good job. Keep it up. This is your reward."
Dreams are weird.
I felt someone's eyes on me. The girl was sitting up on my bed, watching me. "What's this?" She asked as she pointed to her eyes and dragged her finger down.
I checked my face and realized I had been crying. "Tears... they mostly happen when someone is sad. Sometimes when someone is happy."
"What's your name?" She asked.
"Armin... did you remember yours yet?"
"Yes. It's Iris."
"It's a pretty name." I said.
She smiled. It was the first time I felt that I saw her. She was tiny, hair white as snow, eyes blue as the sky.
"I don't remember who I am..." She said. A tear rolled down her check. "It's so frustrating..." She wiped away her tear. "I don't want to cry."
I felt the same way, though not about the same thing. I got up and hugged her. She's the only person who's ever understood.
Iris' POV
He smelled so good.. it felt familiar. I hugged him back.
But my brain hurt. It felt like a war was going on... And I didn't know whose side I was on. It made me so mad and confused. I felt like this had happened so many times. Something so predictable. I couldn't figure it out.
I must've been in my head for a while because I woke up again....
I couldn't see Armin. I opened the door and saw a room with cabinets... a kitchen.
He was on the floor starring at his hand. I walked over and sat next to him. He closed his hand before I could see what he was looking at. A pill bottle was in his other hand...
"Armin, why are you taking pills?" I inquired.
"To numb the pain.."
My eyes widened, but his eyes were getting heavy.
I straddled his lap and I shook him. "Armin.. stop... What if I can numb your pain instead?"
I listened to the voice in my head that told me to kiss him.
When I pulled away, his eyes had widened but they were dropping fast. "I'm sorry." Armin said. "I should've stayed strong... I'm just not." I pried the pills from his hand.
"Too late. I already took 40.."
"You idiot." I muttered as I looked for the phone.
He chuckled but I could tell he was in pain. Idiot.
A/N: IS this going too fast or..? Please let me know if I should keep going!! XD
