Iris' POV

I went to school with Armin. I didn't get a grade or anything, but because of the past, I wanted to be my his side at all times.

Armin successfully taught me how to read. To my surprise, it only took a month. We went to the library often, just reading. Eventually, I want to get to Armin's level. That would make me very happy.

I woke up to a loud crashing sound. Armin wasn't in my arms. I ran to the kitchen, grabbing the phone and a knife. I was in my bra and underwear, but oh well. Armin might be in danger. The noise came from outside. I went into the hallway, but they were no signs of anything unusual. He could be anywhere.

I went outside the dorm building and heard rustling. I turned the corner, my knife ready.

I saw a body on the floor, one pinned against the wall... it was Armin. He was being punched... over and over.

"Hey!!!" I shouted, coming closer. "STOP IT!!" They looked at me. I don't think I helped...

They pushed Armin and started kicking him. "I SAID STOP IT!!" I got in between Armin and the jerk. I called the police and they ran away. The police said they would drive around our area until they found them.

Armin didn't look too good. He got up, but he was staggering. I did my best to hold him upright until we got into our dorm. I lead him to the kitchen and sat him down, examining his wounds. His left eye was black, blood was coming from his nose and mouth...

"Oh God." I whispered.

I got a cloth and cleaned him up.

"Are you in pain?" I asked.

He was in pain because of me. "Armin, I'm sorry... I brought this with me. It's all because of me..."

"Actually," he retorted "I asked them to meet me there.

I sat on his lap, facing him. "Why?"

"I wanted them to pay for what they did to you. And I couldn't... I'm so sorry." Tears welled up in his eyes. I've seen these tears before. Tears of frustration. I smiled and took him in an embrace.

"Thank you, but you didn't need to do that for me."

“I think it was more for me..."

Armin's POV

A little while after that incident, I asked Iris about her favorite food.

"I don't know." She replied. I could tell she didn't like the subject.

"Iris. Do you eat when I'm gone?"

"Of course I do." She smiled and kissed me.

"That's not going to work..."

She made a pouty face. "Why don't you eat?"

She looked down for a really long time. "Armin, am I beautiful?"

“You're gorgeous. Too gorgeous to starve."

“But... I'm not starving. I don't feel a thing."

I've noticed a lot of strange things about Iris...

I woke up to go to school, but Iris wasn't next to me. I heard crying... I opened the bathroom door. Iris was sitting on the floor, crying.

“What's wrong?" I asked, rocking her back and forth.

“I can't eat... I tried and I tried." She sobbed. "I threw it up... everything I eat."

“Did you throw up on purpose?"

She shook her head."No." She stood up and lifted up her shirt. I saw scars... “Armin, how did I get these?"

“You don't remember making them?" I asked

She shook her head, showed me her thighs... scars. Her wrists... scars. One mark was still bleeding.. “Iris. You're slowly remembering things... You'll know one day. Until then, please never do it again."

“I won't... I have no reason as long as you're here."

“Then why did you..?" I looked at the cut that was still bleeding.

“I wanted to know what it felt like... but I promise I'll never do it again."

“Good." I bandaged it and took her back to bed.
