The Big Sleep

The next morning we were rudely awakened by Chris. Groaning, I sat up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes before getting dressed and meeting the others outside. Everyone looked how I felt: exhausted. Finding a place next to Duncan, I stood waiting for instructions on the next challenge.

"Okay, I hope you're ready because your next challenge begins in exactly one minute!"

Owen looked rather alarmed as he spoke up. "Oh, excuse me, I don't think that's enough time to eat breakfast!"

Chris chuckled menacingly. "Oh you'll get breakfast Owen."

Duncan and I exchanged a look before returning our attention to our host.

"Right after you complete your twenty kilometer run around the lake!"

Eva's temper flared, causing Geoff and Duncan to have to hold her back. Courtney did her best to calm her down, but it wasn't very effective. After her outburst, we all lined up and took running positions.

"Alright runners. Get set...GO!"

And with that, I took off starting with a light jog. I wasn't really in the mood to be utterly exhausted so there was no point in overexerting myself. Besides, I didn't trust Chris or this challenge. Soon enough, I caught up to Duncan.

"Hey sweetcheeks, you seem to be handling yourself well." He managed to puff out between each breath.

My (e/c) orbs darted over to him before returning to the path ahead of me. "Well, I don't trust Chris, so I don't even think this is the real challenge. Besides, I'm already exhausted enough as it is."

He nodded as we continued on. "You do make a good point."

After about twenty minutes, we made it back to the mess hall and patiently waited for the other campers to arrive as I guzzled down several water bottles.

"Thirsty much?"

My eyes widened as I glanced over, only to be met with wiggling eyebrows, to which I quickly jerked my head away.

"S-shut up!"

That only caused him to laugh, making the blush I already had even worse.

Once everyone had arrived and found out the race wasn't the actual challenge, like I thought, Chris revealed an amazing buffet of delicious food. I felt like crying! Sure, I had a secret stash of goodies in my bag, but this was REAL food, not just junk or the mush they were serving us daily. However, something didn't feel right. Why was Chris being nice and giving us good food? I sat there pondering his motives for several minutes before deciding it would be best to only eat a little bit.

I sat down at the table after getting a very sad, pitiful looking plate of food and began to nibble on it.

Duncan gave me a curious look as he sat next to me. "Why didn't you get more food? You on a diet or something?"

Not bothering to look up, I continued to poke at the food. "Nah, I just think that Chris is up to something, he's being a little too nice today."

He shrugged as he began to eat his fill. "Well, just in case that's not the only reason, you don't need to be on a diet. You've got a rockin' bod."

Smiling softly, I giggled to myself before looking up at him. "Thanks, you're not so bad yourself."

His scratched the back of his head as he chuckled before continuing to eat.

Ten minutes later, and all of the food had been demolished.

"Alright campers, time for part two of your challenge!"
