A delinquent only ever thinks of 3 things. The life they left the behind - with their families and friends, the life they dream of living, down on Earth, and the depressing life they will live until their eighteen birthday, when it'll all end.
This was no different for Roman Henderson. She thought of all of these things when the twelve year old was locked up inside of her cell, bored out of her mind.
She sat down on the bed and stared up at the chalk drawings on the wall. All of her memories were drawn there. Tears welled up in her eyes as she reached the biggest drawing of them all. A small girl, aged 3 sitting on Roman's back, the biggest grin on her face. Her long, dark hair was up in bunches with red ribbons around each one. She would be 6 now. Roman imagined her running down the corridors of the Ark, as happy as ever, no one knowing she was technically illegal. Just because she was a second child, which was a crime on the Ark. No one had a sibling. Apart from Roman. She remembered the panic when there was an inspection and they had to hide her poor sister in the floor.
"Don't be afraid, Octavia. It'll be okay." Roman used to tell her, even though she knew it wouldn't be okay if the guards ever found Octavia
Roman reached under the bed and pulled out the soft, yellow blanket her sister used to snuggle with every night. She carefully unfolded it and looked at the items inside and began to cry. A panda teddy and a small sketchpad lay inside. She turned each page carefully and stared at them. Even though they were only stick people and random lines drawn on the pages, it made Roman want to scream, she missed her sister so much.
When she turned the page this time, tears flooded out of her eyes. Octavia had drawn herself, Roman and their parents on Earth, surrounded by trees and water. She thought about how much Octavia spoke about Earth and how badly she wanted to go.
Sudden rage flooded through Roman and she began to kick the bed, screaming. She just collapsed onto the floor in tears.A while later, the guards stormed into the cell.
"3-1-9, time to go."
The guards picked her up and carried her out of her cell, and down the corridors of the skybox, where all criminals stay. As the guards led her down the last corridor, her eyes were drawn to a certain cell. The writing on the door. "Prisoner 1-1-3 Monty Green".
Her best friend, who she hadn't seen in years.
Roman tried to tear away from the guards and over to Monty but she wasn't strong enough.
She remembered the first time she met Monty. He was the quiet one in her math class, but he was smart. He had tutored her one time, and from that day, 7 years ago, they had become best friends. But it'd been 3 years since she'd last seen him, when she was being shoved into her cell for the first time, on her ninth birthday, and he was there to witness it.The guard shoved Roman into the medical room and over to Dr Abby Griffin, before turning and leaving the room, to stand outside and wait.
"Good evening, Miss Henderson." The doctor walked over to the chair and signalled Roman to sit. She did.
"Why am I here?" Roman didn't like the doctor.
"I need to speak to you. It's important."
"What is it?"
"We want to run some tests on you, -"
"What kind of tests?" Roman interrupted. "Will it hurt me?"
"We want to see how your brain reacts to certain messages. We would like to begin today." As she spoke, the doctor began to chain both of Roman's wrists and both ankles down, and even fastened a chain on her neck.
"What is this for!?" She began to move and try to free herself, but the chains were stopping her.
The doctor now placed many wires and various other things on her head and neck, it was almost like a helmet or a hat.
"Are you ready, Roman?"
"No! I haven't had any warning! I didn't know this was happening!"
"Calm down, Roman, you're okay." She walked over to the computer and began pressing buttons.
"No, please, don't!" The doctor ignored her.
"Here we go!" She sounded almost excited. How the hell could she be excited? She was about to fry a twelve year old girls brain, by the sounds of it.
Nothing happened, at first. But suddenly the pain flooded through Roman's brain and she began to scream. Dr Abby just watched her."STOP!" Tears began streaming down the girls cheeks.
She continued to scream for help until she couldn't anymore. The pain had taken over her whole body. She began to whimper.
And then it all went black.(just to confirm ~ in this story bellamy isn't related to octavia. roman and octavia are sisters and bellamy will come in later.)
