Albus was quite alone. In honesty, he had not originally minded James leaving. He didn't particularly like the fact that his mother had asked them to share a carriage-room, almost as if he needed to be babysat. And James had evidently disliked being stuck with the duty, for moments after the train pulled away from the station, out of view of the teary parents, James had swiftly upped and left, with little more than an "Alright if I join Teddy?" before leaving. He hadn't even given Albus a chance to reply, or offered for him to come with. He didn't mind. Not right then.

Albus was in fact, quite lonely. This wasn't the first time he had felt so, he never was as good as his brother at talking to people, never as sociable as his sister. Never so good at fitting in as they were. Never quite enough at anything he thought. If it hadn't been for his current, faint grasp at magic, he truly believed he would have been a complete outcast from his family aswell. Atleast he wasn't a squib, that would have been too much to handle.
Sparks popped around him, little angry red flashes emerging from the tip of his Oakwood wand gripped between clutched hands, before disappearing as quick as they had existed.

Albus stuck his wand harshly into his robe pocket, and decided couldn't sit still for another second longer. He was utterly bored. And, he concluded, being sat alone with his own thoughts for another few hours wasn't the greatest company.
Wandering the corridors, Albus glanced into each carriage briefly. He was amazed to see how many of his fellow first years were already establishing who was friends with who. Spotting his cousin Rose, Albus began to head towards her, finally glad for some company, before coming to a halt. She was laughing with a group of other girls, and Albus instantly knew he didn't want to be a part of that. He may be bored, but he wasn't ready for the irrational screaming and giggling of girls. He had left Lily at home for a start. He was quite done with girlish behaviour.
He felt a pang of guilt for insulting his sister, he loved her. But he was glad for the time away from her.

Shaking his head, as if to shoo away the guilt, Albus reached across to open the door of a seemingly empty carriage when a soft voice from within the room startled him.
"umm..hello"
Albus pauses, before sighing. "sorry, I thought it was empty"
"no please! you can stay" the boys voice replied with quiet urgency.
Albus glanced him up and down. Neatly arranged pale-blonde hair sat prominently against his pale face. Albus noticed the strangers book placed gently onto his lap, his legs tucked up onto the seat, as if huddled as far into the corner as he could manage. Blue eyes peaked out from behind his knees.
He seemed as lonely as Albus felt.
Albus slide the door closed, and smiled at the boy, before sliding into the seat opposite. Taking a deep breath, Albus decided to mimic James. He stuck his hand. Just as James does when he meets someone new. And, with the same tone of confidence as his brother faked, he stated-
"I'm Albus, Albus Severus Potter. and you are?"
The blonde boy paused, before a large smile broke his timid exterior.
"Malfoy, Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy".

And both knew in that very moment they were no longer going to feel quite so alone anymore.
