The interior of the school was definitely interesting, including the dark tinted windows. While they were useless at night, she was willing to bet they kept it almost as dark as midnight during the day. It looked like they had gone with the traditional gothic theme to match the outside, just remodeled so everything was new instead of old and crumbling. The floor was a slick looking gray cement that ended abruptly to the darker grey of the stonework wall. Hanging in their iron sleeves were torch-like things that looked to have been altered to light bulbs, and probably couldn't be removed. Hanging on the walls were posters similar to the 'Got Milk?' ones but instead of milk it read blood, and the liquid was a crimson red. She wasn't sure if it was meant to be serious or if the beings here had a great sense of humor.
A bell rang somewhere and students began filing out of rooms and down the halls. At first she was surprised, being it was eight at night, until she remembered vampires probably couldn't attend school in the sunlight. What looked like some prep girl group walked by, one of them laughing and Em saw her very obvious fangs. There really wasn't a point in denying she was surrounded by vampires, at that point. Emily came to a dead stop, forcing Jared, who had been tugging her along, to stop and look back at her.
"So what are you, Some sort of recruiter or whatever? Is this what you meant when you said you could save me and give me a new life?" There was a brief pause as he took in her questions, before nodding. At that, she began an internal war with herself, conflicted on which life she wanted, and why she was even there in the first place.
He began walking again, leading her straight to what looked like an office at the end of hall. When they walked in, the chair behind the long cherrywood desk swiveled around. A beautiful woman sat in all her royal-like dignity, her long flowing black hair cascading down her shoulders. She was pale, like Jared and the students she'd seen, with the most stunning green eyes. After a moment, Em realized he was bowed, his hand fisted against his chest, and she scrambled to follow suit. The first words out of the woman's mouth caught her by surprise.
"How are you, Emily?"
"I'm actually a lot better than I've been since-"
"Since your mother moved on," there was a split second where she looked to be remembering something, "and the accident with your father the other day."
"How did you know?" Em couldn't help feeling slightly creeped out and laid bare for the lady, who apparently knew everything about her. The woman smiled a small, bright smile as though the question amused her.
"I've had Jared on your case since the day your mother died. After the accident with your father, we decided it would be best to bring you here."
"I am one of the best trackers here. Our Priestess, Mya," he gestured toward the woman, " sent me out to find someone with something special inside of them. After your mom passed something inside you awakened from all the pain and sorrow. It was just the kind of special we were looking for. We watched, to see if it would develop more." He paused a moment to let what he'd said sink in, " I saw everything that happened the night your dad died. I asked the goddess to do something, anything to keep you alive."
"You saved me that night, didn't you."
"Yes, I did." The room fell silent for a few moments, before Mya stood up, handing Emily a couple papers, her schedule and a small map of the school. Giving it a once over, she couldn't find a problem with it. Drama wasn't exactly something she was sure about, but she'd try it. Just because she couldn't find a problem didn't mean she was feeling any more certain about this place.
