After dropping the heavy contraptions at Em's place, they made their way to the Northtown Mall. It was a bit of a walk, at least four times the distance was from Emily's to the school. It was a sunny day though, with little wind, and they enjoyed the warm rays on their skin. Upon reaching the mall, Sam broke away to go check out the 'preppy' sections, checking out all the other attractive boys and girls that either skipped or left school that day.
Emily headed straight for the Hot Topic store, checking out their new styles. There were two employees and three customers in the store, so it wasn't terribly crowded. To her left was a half-wall of different chokers and spiked necklaces, and to her right was a full wall of lingerie. All different colors popped out, from a hot pink babydoll to a sleek purple bra and thong. She wasn't terribly interested in that wall but the colors were pretty. In her pocket, her phone began to vibrate. Pulling it out, she checked her messages from Jack.
Hey Em, no luck on my hunt. Help me out? Ur always so good at findin me them cuties ~J~
On it dork *E*
J come find me in HT *E*
On my way ~J~
She couldn't help but smile and give a little laugh. Jack was hopeless. He always talked a big game about hot guys and hooking up, but if he was left to his own devices he would never have a boyfriend. Maybe that was why he couldn't keep one, because they were always set up.
"Umm, hi there. Can I help you?" The voice coming from behind her was almost enough to make her jump, though she did jerk around rather quickly and gasp. She hadn't noticed one of the employees walking over, much less expected one of them to talk to her.
"No, thanks. I'm fine." She smiled sheepishly, her heart still going a thousand miles per hour in her chest. As she looked him over, though, she realized that he was just the type of guy that Jack was looking for.
"Alright, well let me know if you need anything, hun." The worker spun on his heel, starting to walk away. She hurried to catch him before he left completely.
"Hey," she hesitated for a moment as he turned back towards her, "uhm, not to be rude or anything, you know, but you wouldn't happen to be, well... You wouldn't happen to be gay, would you?" Needless to say she had lowered her voice so only he, and not the rest of the store, could hear her. The last thing she wanted was to upset him, if he hadn't come out of the closet yet. As she had expected, he looked slightly surprised, and also curious.
"Apologies but I don't think it's really your business which side of the Fence I play for, dear. Why do you ask?"
"Well, I have this friend. He's really sweet, and you seem just his type." She smiled feeling slightly awkward about the whole situation. If he hadn't seemed nice enough, even in his refusal to answer, she definitely wouldn't have mentioned it. His chipper attitude returned when she broached the subject, and soon his smile returned.
"Alright, sounds ... interesting. Especially if you have the nerve to tell a complete stranger that . My name's Andy, by the way."
"He should be here like any second. Oh! I'm Emily, I almost forgot." She chuckled quietly at her own slight awkwardness. It truly was a horrible inconvenience to be unable to control her displays of ineptitude in random human conversation.
I think I can see you ~J~
Emily nonchalantly placed her phone back in her pocket, grinning at Andy. He seemed almost able to know what her pent-up excitement was about, giving her a thrilled smile as well. Regardless of the fact that she was positive she had offended him in her quest for answers, he seemed to be looking forward to meeting Jack.
