Meera laughed silently as she observed the two baby orang utans frolick around as their mother build the nest for the night. Such was the beauty of nature! She wondered at this extraordinary glimpse into a separate paradise. The canopy walk along the Dipterocarpacaes, among the tallest trees in the world provided a panoramic landscape of lush green vegetation and ability for her to observe the tree top canopy. Further into the horizon, she watched as the dusky silver langur swung upside down and a reticulated python observing its prey.
This year was a good year for those in the forest reserves, the fruit masting season was abundant this year, among the best since 10 years. Flourishing fig trees brought so much food, that the forest was teaming with life and romance. Life was again good in the jungle.
As she walked silently amongst the canopy, she thought back to her current work with the Wildlife Rescue Unit. She had begun working undercover to root out the wildlife trafficking crime lords as she was sickened with discovering Borneo wildlife poached beyond belief. The internet had spurred such a rampant marketplace for wildlife as pets, wildlife parts for medicine etc.
Her team have had several leads and finally they found the criminal mastermind behind the trade in Borneo. It was rumored that almost all wildlife trafficking had to go through Mr. Lucian Winter. With the evidence gathered, the Rescue Unit had filed a joint court case against his company in Malaysia. Unable to contain herself, she wrote a scathing letter to him with all the rage she felt about his illegal activities which were killing innocent animals whom also share the earth with us.
"Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha" came a notorious sinister laugh of the endangered Helmeted Hornbills as they flocked on the canopy walkway and Meera shivered...
