It looked more like an office. A 3 story building that was painted with a white that now turned a grey. Rocks were used as designs, which gave it a more ancient look. There was a small lawn inside with an even smaller fishpond, which didnt have any fish.
With 7 comfort rooms and 150 something occupants, it was one of the biggest men's dormitory in the university. Wait, scratch that. It is the biggest dormitory for men in the university.
At first I was proud when I saw the dorm. But the moment I stepped in, I noticed only few men. I mean, all of us were male, but not all of us were men.
By my estimation, about 70% of the occupants were gay. The rest were endangered species of men. But even though they were gay, the fact that the university let them stay in the dorms meant that they were good people.
That or they did some special 'favors' to the people up top.
Anyway, seeing this man lit up happiness in me since he didnt seem gay. We bro's need to stick together in a dorm like Mahogany.
"Sure bro. I was just on my way now." I said. " Im Christian , by the way. BSED-1 major in MAPEH"
"Edward, im BSED, too. Major in Math" said the man.
For once im glad I found someone with had the same course as I did. They could be handy during exams, you know?
We arrived later at the dormitory and found our rooms. I also found out that Edward would be my classmate on most ov my subjects. Relieved that I am not alone, I laid back on my new bed and tried to picture out what tomorrow would be.
My pillow seemed rough so I tossed and turned on my bed until I got frustrated and looked under the matress for what was making my sleep so hard.
As I bent over the matress for inspection, I discovered what was causing the uneveness. Dozens of school newspapers were below it. Some dating back ten years ago. Some only recently.
Whoever owned this bed before sure was an avid reader of school news.
I gathered the newspapers and placed them on my desk. I was sorting them out according to their dates.
I was an avid reader myself and I grinned upon finding new things to read. Here's one on the school's 87th anniversary, here's one when the basketball team ranked 4th in the region, and here's one on the song fes-
Wait, what's this?
'Freak-accident causes fire to dormitory. 1 dead, 58 missing'
What the? My eyes widened on the article and I look for the date it happened.
It was on the same date that the Super Typhoon Yolanda had come for the Philippines. Wierd. If it was raining outside, then how could the fire spread enough to destroy an entire dormitory? Even wierder, how could 58 bodies go missing in a fire that happened during a typhoon?
There was another article, too. This one was gruesome.
' Foreign Visitors massacred before signing joint contract'
I was about to read more about it when my eyes reached the end of the paper. Someone cut the article off. The missing details where nowhere to be found. To make matters worse someone from behind me grabbed the paper from my hands. This jogged my senses as I looked to where the paper went.
" Excuse me, these are mine."said the man.
Hmm, what a joke. Saying excuse me AFTER taking the paper. He was old, no , mature. He was wearing a leather jacket and had his headset on his chest. His scruffy hair had an appeal to it that made me doubt if he was a student or not. I later noticed he had taken he other newspapers from my desk, too.
Without even waiting for my response, he ran off slamming the door. I think he was the occupant of the room before I had taken his place.
I wanted to know what had happened ten years ago and seemingly this man knew more than I did. I tried to follow him after a few seconds of hesitation.
I arrived to the ground floor of the dormitory and was shocked to find the doors locked. The locks could only be unlocked and locked from the inside which means he was still inside the dormitory.
As I was about to search for him I saw the same leather jacket that the man had worn earlier , lying on the ground.
What? Why would he strip naked in the middle of the night in a dormitory filled with gays?
Unless, he wasn't inside anymore. But nah, thats impossible. You would have to be at least as small as a rodent to get through the barred windows, which would have been the only way out other than the door.
Tired and confused, I gave up on searching the for the man and just wanted to sleep. He wasnt worth it. Besides I had a big day tommorow, it was called school.
I looked out the window just to make sure the man wasnt outside and saw nothing but the trees and darkness swaying in the night's abyss.
What a wierd night.
