Sydney impatiently tapped her feet on the clean ground, waiting in the queue to receive her dorm number. Her eyes wandered around taking in every detail of the lobby - the white walls, polished furniture, the carpet, the newsboard. Everything was perfectly placed. It was as if the lobby was designed by a professional. 'Perfect' was all she could say about it.

PERFECT. Just a seven letter word.

That's what she dreamt her life would be. But now she was struck with her never ending chain of sorrows. Sorrows that were not supposed to be there in the first place. Only if she was stronger.

A light tap on the table brought her attention to the person sitting behind the table. The overly dressed female was scowling at her.

"Your name ?", the female said in a bored tone.

Sydney had been brooding for too long to realise her turn had come. She quickly drew out a crumpled copy of her application and handed it over to the receptionist.

"Wing C, Dorm number 209. Just take left from the corner.", the receptionist directed her.

Sydney took her copy of the application and made her way to find her room. It will be a new start, a little peaceful one, she hoped.

All along the way she kept repeating 'C wing 209' in her mind, dreading the worst. She didn't want to enter into a wrong room to see half naked people and embarass herself.

The campus was massive, like she had seen in movies. Standing on her feet, she could make out there were atleast 10 to 15 floors in every building. After walking for almost ten minutes she spotted C Wing- her home for the next few years.

The building looked like it was old. The paint was chipping off slowly. And unfortunately the pale yellow color of the doors didn't do anything to make the view enchanting for her.

Sydney slowly ascended the stairs, pulling her heavy luggage along with her. Upon reaching the second floor, she started looking for her new abode.

At the corner of the floor, a silver number plate with 209 written with black on it caught her attention. Heaving a long sigh she put her luggage on the ground.

"Finally", she mumbled. Her hands went to her jeans pocket to take out the keys. She inserted the key followed by a click sound.

The room wasn't extravagant, but looked cozy and homey. Sydney liked how her roommate has decorated the place.

( Sydney's Room👆)

After unpacking her things Sydney took an hour nap. Her hair were now a mess, but she cared less about looks right now. The rumbling of her stomach made her realise that she hadn't had anything in hours.

"Hey partner, want something to eat ?"

She looked up to see a beautiful blonde staring right at her. This made her insecurities resurface. The blonde was approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall. She was wearing a white crop top paired with ripped jeans.

Sydney's stomach rumbled again making her embarass. To which the blonde just smiled and offered her a pizza box. " I am Cheryl by the way."

" Sydney", replied Sydney taking the box from the girl's hands.

In the last five hours with Cheryl, Sydney had learnt alot about her roommate. She was also an first year student at Hanford like Sydney. Her favourite colour was Red, which Sydney has already guessed by looking at her side of the room. It was actually bathing in red. There were also a few posters of boys with dick drawn on their faces.

Another fact about Cheryl was : SHE HATED BOYS.

".....and then he literally threw the paint at my face Sydney. My FUCKING face !!! Can you imagine how hard it was to get rid of that", Chery raised her hands in the air to explain the intensity of the situation.

" I can imagine Cheryl....Trust me. Boys are whores. "

" Now that's a fact. By the way, Do you have a boyfriend ?", Cheryl asked Sydney.

Sydney was confused whether to tell her roommate about her ex or not. Then she thought, Why should I hide it. It isn't like I committed a crime. It's him who was a cheater. He should be ashamed, not me.

With a new found strength she told Cheryl, " I had a boyfriend, but he cheated on me."

" Man whore," Cheryl scowled, to which Sydney just smiled. She knew she had already found a great friend in her roommate.

Suddenly a window on her side of the bed caught her attention. Sydney stood up to open the window. She loved fresh air. Nature was her solace.

Before she could unbolt the window, Cheryl screamed, " Don't open it Sydney. We aren't allowed to."

Sydney raised her eyebrows in confusion, " Why ? It's just a window. If we cannot open it, then what's the point of installing it here."

" This an old building Syd.. This window was installed for the wardens to exchange documents. Later this room was turn into a dorm. And other side of the window is boys dorm baby. That's why we aren't allowed to open it", Cheryl explained in a breath.

Sydney nodded in understanding and made it a point not to ever open the window.
