Matthew
"Wow look who we have here, the devil of Hell's Kitchen, I'm Phil" Matthew felt the blood drain from his face "But you would know that wouldn't you?"
Panic coursed through his veins, What do I do? What do I say?
"I demand a lawyer." He answered quietly through gritted teeth. While he wasn't familiar with the super-hero end of situations, we was aware a government entity must abide by the laws.
A Pause
"Well, you came all the way here so you might as well hear me out". And with that, he sat down on a third fold down chair that was pulled from the table. With that, he laid a thin file on the table and opened the cover. "Matthew Micheal Murdock, father: Jack Murdock"
Why hadn't they taken off his mask? Clearly, they know his identity and from the slight pinch in his left arm, he was almost sure they took blood samples.
"Blinded at a young age, and sent to an orphanage slightly, later on, you now work as an independent lawyer"
So he was 90% sure they knew his powers and 100% sure they knew his identity. And now Matt knew the very reason he kept a mask on in the first place.
Coulson
So he was clearly very, very uncomfortable. While he was still wearing the superhero costume, a rough, red leather-looking get-up, his manners in this situation were laid bare, not covered by a fighting stance or quick-witted moves. Coulson thought the devil horns were a bit much. His hands were held in front of him, tight-fisted. His shoulders were hunched in and wary.
Phil looked down at his papers again, on them he saw the few notes he wrote:
Matthew Micheal Murdock, Father was murdered, Grew up in S.A.O., Blinded at ~9
Behind this otherwise blank sheet, Coulson did have Mathews's medical report and police file, but those weren't necessary for what he was trying to get at.
"I'd like to make it clear, first of all, that we caught you within two weeks of looking, so we could do it again, faster and easier next time" Phil paused, surveying the prisoners face "Second of all, we could call the police, right now, and that would be the end of it-"
"So why haven't you already? What are you keeping me here for?" The vigilante insisted. His hands were fists on the table and other than the questions he just interrupted Phil with, he showed no signs of further communication.
"Because locking you up wouldn't do anything for anyone." Phil wasn't keen on the vague pandering, but he did say this sincerely. While it's not often he's been on the other end of the kept-in-holding situation, he has been in contact with enough super-powered vigilantes to know how these meetings can feel. Like the world they've managed to balance on a thin sheet of glass is crumbling beneath them. "We are aware of your work in this neighborhood, it's admirable. A lot of what we do involves helping the little people, or at least we try to, clearly not as well as you. We have been recently made aware of a larger issue that you may have encountered, and we could use your expertise."
"So that's what this has been about? You need a tour guide." Matt commented, Coulson could tell he was trying to find the words to get the most information out of him. Clearly, the lawyer bit wasn't just a cover.
Phil sat up and tapped the file against the table, "Something like that. But that threat about the police wasn't veiled for a reason. Consider this a tester period. As much as I've complimented your work, it's still illegal, and we will mutually benefit from this relationship for as long as you play by the rules."
Coulson gauged Matt's reaction, he had to make sure the threat sank in. They were going to work together on the team's terms- none of this vigilante business. It was hard to pick up on facial ticks through the mask. Why did they let him keep it on again? Something about trust? Either way, he seemed more comfortable, now knowing the rules of the playing field.
" Anyways, I've been rambling. I can assume your suit would be getting really stuffy at the moment so I recommend you change into the clothes left in the bathroom for you." Coulson pushes out his, chair gesturing towards the locked door. Unsure whether Matt could understand what that meant, and going with it anyway, he gestured to the camera signaling the door to be opened.
