"Kagome, I don't understand why I have to come pick you up from school every day." A tired voice complained as two dark haired teens moved through the crowd of middle schoolers wearing the same uniforms, though their various hairstyles are the only way to tell them apart. One of the girls wore the same brown loafers, white socks, green shirt, and blouse as the other girls of the middle school they were just dismissed from. She had medium length black hair with a blue-ish hue to it and wide, expressive blue eyes. The one who spoke was taller with messy dark hair sticking out in many directions, medium length bangs, and bi-colored eyes. He wore white sneakers, dark jeans, an oversized white sweater, and a black scarf around his neck.
"That's because you love me, Aniki!" Kagome chirped in response, grinning up at the grouchy male and giggled when she received a rather scary glare. "Besides, I didn't want to be bothered with Yuka, Eri, and Ayumi today. They keep trying to set me up with Hojo." Kagome rolls her eyes skyward at the mere thought of her nagging friends, but warmth filled her chest. She knew that they meant well, but they could be really overbearing. What Kagome wanted to focus on is her studies and not on boys.
"Just tell them to get off your back," the older boy grumbled and wrapped his fingers tighter on the cup in his hand, soaking up as much warmth as he could from his coffee that he had bought on the way to pick up his cousin. He loved the girl, no doubt, but she was old enough to get home by herself. Rumi wanted to so badly to deny his aunt's request in escorting Kagome home, but since they are letting him stay with them after the accident resulting in his parent's death, the young adult complied.
"I can't do that," Kagome shook her head at the thought of hurting her only friends' feelings just because they make her a bit uncomfortable. Rumi shrugged and avoided colliding with a young male that went to his cousin's school. The other boy sneered coldly but flinched back when Rumi glowered down at him and growled some words under his breath. "Rumi! I'm so sorry, Itsuki-san!" The younger cousin bowed in apology hastily before grabbing Rumi's arm and tugged him away. "You really have to stop being so mean to people! You won't get married with that kind of attitude."
"I don't have the time for that," the cute boy snorted unattractively and took a sip of his coffee. "If I can't take care of myself, then what would I do if my husband decides to leave me? I can't rely on that and you shouldn't either."
"Keep it up and you'll grow wrinkles on your brow." Kagome had already known that her cousin preferred males and didn't mind it one bit. She was actually ecstatic about it, to be honest.
"I hate you," Rumi groaned and shoved his younger cousin playfully. "You never take my advice seriously." The two-continued chatting as they made their way to the shrine, walking up too many steps and coming upon an open yard when a middle-aged woman swept up leaves and litter.
"Mama, we're home!" Kagome stopped mid-sentence and squealed with delight in seeing her mother, running towards her and hugging her tightly. Rumi smiled lightly at the scene before moving towards the little home to his right.
"Thank you for bringing Kagome back safely." Saya watched her nephew with loving eyes and the boy smiled over his shoulder.
"Of course. I'll start dinner in a bit, okay?" When the woman nodded her consent, Rumi continued into the house and slipped off his shoes before entering the home all the way. He could hear Souta yelling at the tv in the living room as well as rapid taps on the gaming controller, meaning that the eight-year-old boy was playing some kind of game. Rolling his eyes, the young adult passed by the kitchen to go up the stairs and entered his room. Yellow and blue eyes glanced at the multiple pictures gracing his walls before he unraveled the scarf and spread out on the bed, sighing at the softness that the red comforter that graced him with.
