Chapter 11: Surprise

"Yes I've been wondering ,what exactly is the surprise?"

Sophie's POV

I don't know what to expect. I mean it can be absolutely anything. A million thoughts raced through my head ,Is it good news? Is it bad news?

"I have good and bad news," Tiergan spoke up.

*oh wow that's great who would've thought* I said to myself.

"Do you want the good news first or the bad news?" Tiergan asked and the excitement in his eyes made me and Fitz look at each other then back at him.

"Good news!" We both said in unison.

"Okay so the good news is that ,I have been talking with the council for the last couple weeks and they decided to let you two have your cognate test ,but the bad news is that it's not until another month," he said in a with a tight smile.

"A MONTH!!?" We both said at the same time.

"Yes I know it seems like a long time but it's completely necessary ,cognates aren't just an everyday thing so even the council must prepare for such a big event," he responded nonchalantly.

"Sophie do you know what this means?!" Fitz turned to me and the excitement on his face made him look adorable. "We get to become official cognates!" He exclaimed.

I turned to him with the biggest grin plastered over both our faces. He picked me up hugging me and spun around in circles. I kissed him on the lips but still remembering we weren't alone.

"Ahem,now we have lots to prepare for ,you never know what to expect!" Tiergan said waving a finger at us.

After school me and fitz were walking to the Leapmaster. I felt really excited about the cognate test and I really wanted to hang out with Fitz more.

"Hey Fitz ,wanna come over after school?" I said anxiously.

"Uhhh yeah sure I'll be there at four!" Fitz replied trying to have a clan tone in his voice. After knowing him for so long I could tell he was excited.

"Okay see you then!" And I waved goodbye as I walked up to the Leapmaster taking me home to Havenfield.

When I arrived in the yard I notice the verminion wasn't there so I ran inside to warn Grady and Edaline.

"Mom! Dad!" I said rushing into the living room to find Edaline in tears and Grady also looking a little sad but comforting Edaline.

"Hey Soph what's wrong?" Grady asked as if he were one the verge of letting out a sob.

"Verdi isn't in her pasture!" I said looking at both them with an obvious expression.

"Sophie we know ,we sent Verdi to live in the sanctuary. She's done with her preservation and training." He said nudging his head in the direction of Edaline.

"I'm so sorry Edaline," I said ,I was kinda upset about the verminion I mean after all the teeth brushing ,barf and wrestling I really am gonna miss the feathered dinosaur.

"It's fine we should be proud. We made a great accomplishment." She said in a soft voice but her eyes were red and puffy as well as her cheeks.
