At the exact same moment as her arms went up, the silk veil lifted. The candle lights shined on her dress, the pale blue fabric with silver linings dazzled and made the blinding light centered in the luxurious stage. She was such a beauty, Jian thought, the brightest diamond in the whole world, a goddess that he could never reach.

Jian lightly plucked the strings on his GuZheng, making music at the tips of his fingers. They flew out to accompany the center of the attention, Xue.

She moved at the beat of the music, her dress flew up as she span, just like a blossoming flower. Her moved her leg high up in the air, they were straight and long. Her wavy black hair created a cascade of waterfalls behind her, it shaped her figure and face with delicacy. The long silk ribbons around her waist and arms seemed to be floating in the air, as she elegantly moved across the stage, turning, spining, leaping. Her body's movement looked like it was defying gravity, and she was as light as feathers. She flew like a true fairy. But the thing that really struck him was that her dancing, unlike others were not seductive, but had the pure beauty of snow.

Jian was happy to use his music to accompany her dancing, after all, this was all he could give her. He was orphaned just like Xue, and they were taken to Fei Xian Ge together. She became a dancer, and he became a musician. When they were little, they were friends, the children without home because of the drought and the famine. They would take care of each other, him, Xue and Mei. As time changed, they all grown up, Mei became more material and bitter because of the influence, but Xue, as her name, still so ever pure, and grown to be a beautiful young woman. Jian started to see her more than a friend, for him, she was the most beautiful girl he ever saw.

He had never told Xue that, he didn't want her to be aware of him. Right now, they trusted each other, and Jian hated for that to change. Beside, why would it matter, he was poor, and he had nothing beside the instrument which he was playing. Xue was a star, she was the reason why Fei Xian Ge was famous. Madam would never let her go until she was unable to make profit. Even after that, how was he going to provide for her?

Jian promised himself that one day he will tell her, when she was ready, no, when he was ready. But for now, all he could do was to bury his feelings underneath. As his last note hit the strings, the dance was over, the whole house was silent. Jian could see the awe in the faces of those so called nobles, each and everyone of them had the same look that he saw over and over again, they wanted her, they wanted to own her for their own entertainment. Jian felt disgusted by their own desires. They were like animals, savage and only cared about themselves. Nobles like them couldn't care less about the poors. It was because of them that he and Xue were orphaned. If they care even a little about the peasants, they wouldn't close the gates and took all the food. They starved thousands of people for their own interests. If it weren't for them, their parents might still be alive.

Just thinking about it made Jian's blood boil, he felt the rage inside of him. For how many times, he was disgusted that he had to entertain the nobles to survive. But when he saw Xue's expression, a tiny smile that appeared on her face, all his hatred was gone. He knew that Xue loved to dance and he was so proud of her. As Xue leaved the stage, Jian silently promised that he would do anything for her, anything.
