He tried to show me
What breaking looks like
He pointed at all the cracks in the sky
And said that the end was coming
I smiled and said, "No, those are just
the gaps between the clouds."
He tried to show me
What screaming looks like
He pointed at the light
That split through gray skies
And said the world was enraged
I smiled and said, "No, that's just
The sky and the earth meeting."
He pointed at the tree, split by flame
That seared from their greeting
And asked me: "What, then, is that?"
I told him, "That's just what happens
When unattainable hope calls
To an immovable force,
and the immovable force seeks to soar
