Chapter 3: New Girl

Melanie’s P.O.V

Ugh today is my first day of school and I really didn’t want to go. I already knew I was going to be labeled as the nerd and everyone would turn on me. Sure I was dating Hayes but he was popular. After all he was the quarterback. He would probably ignore me and I don’t blame him. I would ignore me too.

I got out of bed and went into the bathroom. I just brushed my hair and left it down straight. I put on eyeliner and mascara. For my outfit I just threw on a pair of black skinny Jeans and one of my brother’s sweatshirts. I walked downstairs to be greeted by my brother.

“Hey sis,” Jake said.

“Hey,” I replied.

“You might want to hurry. Nash offered to give us a ride this morning. Here is a slice of toast and you better eat it Mel. I’m watching you.” Jake knew that last at my old school people called me fat a lot and it caused me to stop eating. Now he always has to be around when I eat to make sure I actually do eat. I quickly ate the toast and drank some orange juice. I looked at Jake and he was smiling.

We grabbed our bags and headed outside and next door. Nash and Hayes were already waiting outside. “Hey babe,” Hayes whispered in my ear when he pulled me in for a hug.

“Hi,” I said back. We climbed in the car and headed to the one place I hated most.

We arrived and Jake and I got out and headed to the office to receive our schedules. “Hey we have the same lunch and we also have lunch with Nash, Cameron, and Hayes!” Jake said excitedly. I just nodded and headed to find my locker.

While walking down the hall people stared and started whispering things about me. Some of the things included; “Look a new nerd to pick on” and “Wow could she get any uglier?” Great way to start a new school.

After stopping at my locker, I headed to my first period which was History. Hayes texted me last night telling me his entire schedule. We don’t have a class together till fourth period and then we had the same classes for the rest of the day. I walked in five minutes late since I couldn’t find the stupid class. “Excuse me are you Mr. Johns?” I asked the teacher.

“Why yes I am. Are you Melanie, the new student?” He replied.

 “Yep that’s me.”

“Well it’s nice for you to join us why don’t you take that empty seat next to Cody. Cody please raise your hand.” A kid with dirty blonde hair raised his hand. I quickly sat down and immediately opened my notebook ready for the teacher to begin his lesson. I heard laughing behind and beside me and people yelling nerd. Ugh could this day go any slower??

It was finally lunch time and I couldn’t wait to see my brother. Then again he has probably made a bunch of friends and wouldn’t want me to sit with him. I walked to my locker and threw my books in. I thought about what had already happened today and it was terrible! That Cody kid was in all of my classes so far and he is such a jerk. He is popular and on the football team. He was being so rude when I tried to ask him were something was and him and his friends tripped me like five times and made everyone laugh about it. Maybe if I tell Jake about it he would do something about it. Then again I wouldn’t wasn’t to seem like the girl who needed her brother to protect her.
