Mikey was so tired but determined to stay awake. Maia was having so much done to her and it terrified him. Lauren was watchful and intent that the nurses and doctors were doing the right things, and Collum was a nervous wreck and asking Lauren what and why everything was happening.
Now, it seemed, Maia was resting, and they were waiting for her to regain consciousness. Mikey wanted to be awake when she awoke. He was adamant that he be there for his sister. He was sitting on Lauren's lap and she was rubbing his back, and it was making it hard to stay awake, but it was also comforting.
"How is she?"
Lauren, Mikey, and Collum all looked up to see Xero standing in the doorway.
"She'll be okay." Lauren said firmly. "We're just waiting for her to wake up. It's normal for her to still be out with the blood loss and trauma."
Collum bit his lip and tried to keep his worry down. It had better be normal. Maia needed to wake up. He just needed her to wake up.
"How's Jesse?" Lauren asked.
"He has a concussion and they want him to stay overnight, but the bleeding has stopped." Xero said and they could all hear the relief in his voice.
"Good." Lauren nodded.
"Collum, can I talk to you for a second?" Xero asked.
Collum looked at him, surprised, but nodded. He kissed Lauren's cheek and walked out of the room and into the hallway. "What?"
"You have powers?"
Collum nodded, a little annoyed at being taken from his daughter's side to talk about powers now. "Yes. Purple. Mind control, mind reading, I can give visions, I can sometimes read histories." He folded his arms. "I've been blocking it, since coming to live with Lauren and the kids."
Xero nodded. "We all have them too, except Taylor."
Collum nodded this time and glanced back into the room. Maia was still out. "What are you?"
"I've never bled a color. I'm a empath and teleport. Annie is a blue, a dreamer, and Nicole is a red...but...she pretty much has unlimited powers." Xero shuffled. "I know this is bad timing, but I just wanted to offer you and Mikey support and let you know that we may be able to help with any questions. You said Mikey is a rainbow and that's unheard of to my knowledge, just like Nic."
"Thank you. It does mean a lot."
They both froze as the heard a yell. Turning, they saw three adults yelling in the hallway. "SHE WANTED TO RUN AWAY BECAUSE YOU'RE STEALING HER AWAY!" The woman yelled at an older lady, who shook her head violently.
"Renee I had too. You're both druggies and abusive and she needs a home and stability. You are not well!" The older lady snapped back.
The man looked like he was going to jump on her but thankfully a nurse approached and admonished them for yelling and separated them. "I WON THE CUSTODY BATTLE AND YOU'RE LUCKY I LET YOU COME TO THIS HOSPITAL!" The lady yelled. "OLIVE IS MINE NOW; YOU WILL NOT SEE HER AGAIN!"
The man and woman were ushered out by security, yelling obscenities back. Collum and Xero shared a look.
"So that's why she wanted to run away?" Collum asked, sadly.
Why couldn't parents just love their kids?
"I feel bad for her. You should have felt the emotion coming off her on that boat. She was terrified of going back home. She's living through hell, right now." Xero said. "She wanted Maia and Jesse to go with her, so she'd have friends and not be alone."
