"Are we there yet?"
Caleb growled low in his throat and glared out of the window.
"No, Callie. We're not there yet. We weren't there yet when you asked five minutes ago, either." Trevor said with a sigh as Callie continued to bob up and down in the passenger seat.
J smirked, enjoying how much it was riling her brother that Callie kept repeating the question.
'He's going to kill her in a second.' Logan told her through the packlink.
'I know. Is it wrong that I'm really enjoying it?' J said back, nestling into him, her wolf urging her to be as close as possible, as though she could sense the piece missing from her mate, the distance between them despite their proximity.
Logan chuckled low enough for only her to hear. 'You think he has a thing for her?'
J's face shuttered with anger and she glared up at Logan, 'Of course not. Don't be ridiculous.'
Logan was pensive for a moment before sighing and subtly shrugging his shoulders, 'As long as you're sure.'
J shrugged and didn't reply, ignoring the idea. It was the most ridiculous thing she'd ever heard. Callie was like a little sister to Caleb, that's all it was.
The journey continued in silence for about another hour when a rumble slid through the car. Logan, she realised, Logan and Trevor. "What is it?" She asked, automatically snapping to attention, ready for a fight.
"We're home," Logan replied, lightly pressing a kiss to her neck. "Our territory is just around the corner."
J smiled, her wolf bounding around inside her, eager to escape, discover, have an adventure. Their home. Her new territory. Hers.
They turned down a tiny lane, the bushes on both sides growing over the road. They slowed to a crawl as the road turned bumpier.
"You guys need to do some gardening," Callie said as she put the window down and stuck her head out, scenting the fresh air.
"We haven't been back for like 8 months, Cal'," Logan said gently.
She turned in her seat, craning her neck to face them and J couldn't help but return her smile. She looked so happy, so healthy – nothing compared to the shadow of a girl she'd met. "I'm excited."
"We can tell," J muttered, feigning mild annoyance. In truth, she loved how bright and lively Callie was. She lifted the mood, lightened the load they call carried.
The road began to widen and finally, in the distance, J could make out the shape of some small buildings and, to her surprise, some people.
"What the?" Logan snapped, anger colouring his tone and sweeping over the car.
"Alpha?" Trevor asked, glancing in the rear view mirror, his voice stiff and formal as Logan's eyes narrowed and a grumble rolled through his chest.
"Someone's on our territory." His voice gruff, animalistic.
Sure enough, as the car reached a small patch of tarmac, they found a group of people, of wolves, waiting for them.
Logan's growl shuddered through J's chest. He was out of the car before she could blink. She scrambled out after him, as the others piled out too. Behind them, Zander and Will pulled up and jumped out of their car before it had even come to a halt.
The group of strangers before them grew as more people began to appear.
J placed a hand on Logan's chest, trying to calm the tension in his muscles. They stopped a short distance from the group, J's wolf snarled in her chest and she knew Logan's wolf was doing the same as his eyes flashed wolf and back again. In response, J's wolf did the same. Her world slipped into monochrome and she eyed each and every wolf stood before them.
