Enormous dark clouds swirled over the area. Seconds later, rain furiously fell to ground. With it, lighting also bolted through the dark sky and it roared loudly all across Twoleg Place.
There were two she-cats, who had no choice but to face this sudden, swift, yet severe Greenleaf storm. The two of them remained huddled under a tall dead oak tree, their pelts soaking wet.
The tree they were under, didn't have a single leaf dangling from one of it's branches. They were still exposed to the pounding rain and it's thunder.
One of the she-cats, practically positioned herself on top of the other one. She had covered up most of her body with her own, and didn't budge at all. She layed there, watching everything around them like a hawk."Ivy...?" The yellow she-cat lifted her head, seemingly confused. Her voice was trembling, and her pink eyes were half open. She could feel Ivy's tongue pressing on her wet fur. Wh-where are we?" The tone of her voice was low, but filled with desperation.
Ivy turned her head to face her friend. "Far from you know who... " She replied, and continued to lick Maddie's soft fur. "But your going to be okay Maddie." She added in quickly, flicking her tail.
N-no he can't be gone! Were not safe! N-not yet!
Her eyes lighted up, as if she suddenly remembered something but it really didn't look like a good thing...
Maddie closed her eyes, and then plopped her head back onto the damp solid ground. She started sniffling a bit and tried to position herself in a way that Ivy couldn't tell she was doing so.
"Go back to sleep okay? I can wake you when it's all over an-" That's when Ivy could hear her sobbing. She looked back at her. "Maddie, don't cry now..." Ivy begged, trying to stay calm.
She ducked down to where Maddie was, and wrapped her sleek tail around her back. But her breathing was getting shakier, and she gripped the muddy ground with her claws, gritting her teeth.
"Stop that!" Ivy snapped, placing both her paws over Maddie's claws.
"You're never ever going through that again, I want you to understand that I'm going to protect you from whatever comes your way."
Maddie got a hold of her breathing, but refused to look at her friend. "We're not safe here..." She muttered, her voice trembling even more now.
"Maddie please just list-"The tree they were under was briefly illuminated by a bolt of thunder. It only made Maddie whimper more, and her heart was pounding.
"I won't take it anymore Ivy!" She yowled, none of us are safe here!" Maddie tried to stand up, but crashed back onto the ground. She wanted to run off, far away from whatever was haunting her mind.
Her crying resumed and Ivy just stood back, she was on the verge of tearing up as well. Her head was hung low, and after a long pause, she helped Maddie back up from the ground.
"Then we-were getting out of here Maddylin." She said firmly, through a bit of tears. The blue she-cat could barely make out the surroundings near them. But one thing she did know, was that there was a forest behind Twoleg Place. If she could survive on the streets, then she could make it out there in the wild, keeping a close eye on her best friend.
"Once the rain stops, were going to the forest..." Ivy whispered.
Maddie glanced back at her, titling her head. Upon hearing this, she tried standing up again.
She made her way over to her friend and she pressed her head on Ivy's shoulders, this time smiling through her tears.
"We're really going?" She looked up at her, sprouting a faint smile, her breathing going back to normal.
Ivy licked her cheek and nodded, "for you, I'd do anything."
I owe you so much Ivy. From the bottom of my heart I couldn't thank you enough!
