"Hey, Ady!" Cami called out to her friend.
"What?!" The brunette yelled back, still scrubbing the same table.
Cami walked over to the other waitress and gave her a hug, "Can you lock up for me? I gotta get home and study."
Adalyn hugged her back and laughed slightly, "I just love how you automatically assume I'll say yes." Her southern accent was pretty thick, one would think she grew up in New Orleans, when she actually grew up in North Louisiana.
"So... that's a yes, right?"
"Ugh, fine. Whatever, leave all the hard work for little ol' me."
Cami laughed at the girl's remark and called out a good-bye, leaving Ady on her own. She rolled her green eyes and continued scrubbing down tables and putting things away for another thirty minutes. After she was done, she grabbed her purse and keys and made her way out of the bar. Turning around to lock the door, the sign above her head read 'Rousseaus'.
She sighed and piled all of her long brown hair into a bun on the top of her head. Her lungs filled with the fresh bayou air, and she could faintly smell spices and flowers. Normally that'd be a weird combination, but somehow, New Orleans made it work.
Adalyn only moved here about eight months ago. All she knew for sure was that she loved it. The only downside is walking through the dark streets, with voodoo shops on every corner. She made the mistake of looking through one of the windows and saw a shrunken head staring right back at her. She immediately looked away, muttering 'oh jeez' under breath,
Her apartment was only a ten minute walk from the bar she worked at, and not even halfway there some creepy guy stepped out of the shadows. She gasped and tried to ignore him. He had other plans.
"Where ya' goin', cher? I'm not done with you."
The girl was only 5'4, so the six-foot-something man towered over her, with a dangerous smirk on his face.
It didn't faze her.
"Too bad I'm done with you." She grabbed his arm while he was reaching for her, and twisted it behind his back. He yelled out in pain and Ady got a good glimpse of his teeth.
Vampire.
He was about to get up, but she quickly grabbed onto his head, and with a forceful twist she snapped his neck. His body dropped like a rock. She pushed some of her bangs out of her face and, with a series of un-ladylike grunts, she pulled his body into an alley and walked away like nothing happened.
Only something did happen.
And someone saw it.
