Cry's POV
Dark clouds gathered around the town. The sun was blocked off by them. Then a lightning struck a field near the town. People gathered at the town square. Everybody was there, it seemed. "Where is Cry?" Cry's grandpa said. Nobody knew. Cry was gone. Soon after, multiple lightnings struck everywhere around the town. It continued for what seemed like forever. When the lightnings finally stopped striking, a war horn was blown and a feral scream was heard. From the fields around the village, thousands of orcs rampaged towards the town. Multiple orcs came running, while others where riding dusk boars*.*Dusk boars = Giant boars living in the shivering woods. These boars are tamed and trained by orcs, for riding and battle.
The villagers began fleeing. The ones who where caught by the footmen got slaughtered. Cut down by their rusty swords, yet not dead. The orcs stopped and swung their swords at them until they died. Brutally they got murdered. All the men got butchered, some women got abducted and all the children too. A scream was heard from the middle of the village. Cry's grandpa, wielding a sword, was cutting down orcs left and right. More orcs came running, but they where no match for the old man. Even a boar riding orc came to aid his fellow orcs, but also he was defeated. First Cry's grandpa had cut down the rider, and afterwards killed the boar. More orcs came running, but it was futile. This man seemed invincible. As he had killed the second boar rider, he was pierced by an arrow. The only hope of the town, killed by an arrow. How anticlimatic.
I woke up. What was that dream. Was this the kind of person I was, to dream these kinds of things. I let out a sigh. Then I heard a bell. It was pretty close too. I sat up, only to stare right into a blue orb. The blue orb began to shake, and it let out a small sound, like a bell. The orb was floating above the ground. Was this sorcery? The orb began to float upwards. As it moved, the sound of a bell was heard again. I followed the orb with my eyes, and soon I saw the smoke above the trees. Weird, today was no special day. No celebrations where supposed to happen in the next couple of weeks. "Maybe I have been sleeping here for weeks." I thought. I stood up and headed back for the village. As I got closer, the smoke seemed to get darker too. Was something burning? When I was able to see the village, it was clear what hat happened. Something had begun to burn, and now multiple houses where on fire. I began to run. I had to help save the town. I ran straight over the fields. In the corner of my eye I saw a burned spot, and the crops where stomped down toward the town. This couldn't have been the townspeople. They where always utmost careful with the crops.
I stumbled into the town. As I reached the town square, I was paralyzed. Corpses where lying everywhere. Massacred and splattered all over the place. The townsmen and a few women where the victims to these assaulters. I fell to my knees. Why did this happen.
"C-Cry." I heard a weak voice from the middle of the town square. "Grandpa?" I asked. "C-C'mere boy." he said as he always had. I stood up and made my way toward him, carefully avoiding the corpses of my fellow townsmen. As I reached the point where his voice came from, I saw him on the ground, laying sideways. His stomach was pierced by a huge arrow. "Cry. I couldn't protect them. I'm sorry, but at least you're safe." He said. I looked around. They where all dead. Then I saw a very weird corpse. It was deformed and ugly, and it's blood was black. "The orcs, Cry. It was the orcs and their boars that attacked the town. You must save them." He said. "But who will I save?" I asked.
Then I realized. My dream, it showed me what had happened. "The women and children! They where kidnapped." I said.
"Cry, I was once a warrior from the invincible guild, Dreadful Crusaders, but I had cast away my warriors path, to settle down. This resulted in marriage, and I had children, as well as a grandchild, You. But your parents disappeared, and I took care of you. I wanted to learn you the silent life of a farmer, but your stubborn ways led to you wanting to become a warrior. But now I see that I should have trained you. Now it is too late Cry. The only thing I can do now, is to wish you good luck on your journey." He said. His breathing was getting heavier. He was about to die. "Before you go, go back to our house, and go grab that book about swordsmanship. It'll be useful." He said. He closed his eyes. I put my hand on his shoulder. I shed no tears, for he wouldn't have wanted that. I stood up, and I went into the house. The grand bookcase that had fascinated me since my childhood, stood still tall before me. The big book, that I never had gotten to touch, was in the right corner. It was bound in leather and had golden stitches. I got a hold of the book, and pulled it out of the bookcase. I held the heavy book in my hand. It was pretty. It had golden letters and it smelled like old leather. Then I heard something rumbling from under the floor. It sounded like something mechanical. "KLANK!" it said from the floorboards, and the bookcase started to move. It swung open and revealed a staircase going downwards. Was this why I had to get the book now? I went down the stairs. They led me to a small room, with only one candle. In the far end of the room, There where two sets of armor. One which was of leather and with a white mask. The mask had two round circles and a straight line on the bottom. Also it had a katana. The other set was heavy iron, it had a shield, but the sword was missing.
"Cry, I want you to take the set of armor on the left." Grandpa said.
I jumped into the air. "Jeez, don't startle me like that. How did you even get down here?" I asked. "No time to explain. But take that set. Bring the mask to hide your identity. The mask is special you see. It has magic powers." He said. "What exactly does it?" I asked."The mask is indestructible. When you wear that mask, no one will be able to remove it. Only yourself, and the people you can truly trust, will be able to do so." He said. Grandfather bend down and coughed. "Go now child, and avenge us." he said. His breathing stopped and he closed his eyes. Then he fell onto the ground. He was dead.
Remaining strong, I ran out to grab my backpack. Then I returned to the basement. I took the katana. It had a belt that could be used for carrying. Then I took the mask, but I put it in my backpack. No reason for wearing it now.
Hours had passed. I had gathered the bodies of the townsmen. All of them where lying neatly alongside each other. This was all I could do. I gathered rocks, and covered them in them. Another pair of hours passed. The last corpse. My grandfather. I had picked up his sword from the town square, and now he was lying gracefully with it in his hands. I buried him under rocks, like the others, and then I sat under a tree. I watched as the town of my birth burned down.
"The armor!" I yelled and ran back into the burning town. I had forgotten about the armor. I found the house and darted into the basement. I grabbed the whole statuette and carried it out. In between, the house next to ours had caught on flames and was now a grand torch. I managed to get out of the town, only with a bit of soot on my face. I put down the statuette. I grabbed the leather armor and then I fastened the belt with the katana. I then sat down under the tree. I faintly heard the sound of a bell. Then I saw the blue orb floating toward me. "What are you?" I asked the orb. The orb shook, as if it was trying to tell me something, but it only let out bell jingles. "If you wanna join in on my journey, then ring two times." I said. The orb shook again, ringing two times.
???'s POV
I was crawling around on the rooftops. Night had fallen, nobody knew I was present. As I watched the nightlife unfold I made out that this was gonna be another night without excitement. No magic, no sword fights and no blood shead. I chuckled to myself. I raised my hand and summoned my inherited blue flame. Tomorrow night, I'll burn the city to cinders.
Cry's POV
I had made my way through the tunnels of the mountains. Sliding through mine shafts and caves for an hour or so, I had gotten down from the place I was born. I was going to Lightport. A city nearby where I could search for information. Luckily our town was the one closest to the ground level, so I had only half a day of traveling before me.
I could make out the silhouette of Lightport in the distance. I opened my backpack and brought out the mask. There where no holes for the eyes. How was I going to see where I was going. I brought the mask up to my face. No, it was pitch black.
I felt something grab me around my head. I pulled my mask to get it off, but I couldn't. What is this. I touched the back of my head to see what had grabbed me. It was some kind of leather. I traced it, and I found out that it was connected to my mask. The mask had wrapped its leather strap around my head. It was stuck. I closed my eyes. Magic sucks. Now I couldn't see shit.
I heard the orb ringing. "Yeah, I was stupid to think this would work." I said.
I saw a leaf fall down in front of me and I grabbed it. Wait a minute... I can see. What the heck is this. "Does this mean I can take this thing off too?" I asked. The orb answered with two rings, which meant yes. "Alright, then we are going into the city." I said and made my way to Lightport.
