2nd POV
All week you had been begging Steve to take you to this new amusement park that had opened up in a town not too far from Hawkins. It had been blazing hot all week, and you thought it'd be a great way to spend some time in the summer heat . He had work all week and didn't have anytime to go with you.
You expected today to be like every other day, you'd call Steve and ask if he could go to the amusement park, and he would say he had work and couldn't take the day off. You would say that's okay and set up a movie night instead. It had become such a frequent pattern you wondered why you even bothered to call and ask anymore. Still, you were hopeful that today he would have time to take you to that amusement park.
You picked up the phone and dialed his number. You waited for him to pick up... but he didn't. Maybe he already went to work... he was trying to get extra hours in. Or maybe he had to take Robin to work today, which was understandable since her car was barely functional and looked like it would break down at any given time. As you kept making excuses about why he didn't answer you heard a knock on your door.
The door opened before you could open it, luckily it was Steve. He smiled, "you really should keep the front door locked." You laughed, "well it was just you so I don't have to worry. Except I probably don't want anymore dinguses walking into my house." He frowned and feigned offense, "you've been hanging around Robin too much." He picked you up in a hug and spun you around which made you squeal. He put you down and smirked, "at least I'm your dingus." You shook your head, "nah, Robin claimed you as her dingus." He chuckled and kissed your cheek. "Speaking of Robin, shouldn't you be at work," you asked, turning to face him and arching an eyebrow.
He shrugged, "a little birdie told me I needed to take my girlfriend somewhere." You rolled your eyes, "I wonder who?" He kissed the tip of your nose, "hmm it was this pretty girl I met, think her name was Y/n." You shook your head and giggled, "where to?" He gave you a 'really' look and grabbed your hand, "guess you don't remember, but now it's a surprise."
"I didn't forget, dingus. I just wanted you to say it."
He smirked, "I guess you won't get that satisfaction, so you'll just have to wait and see." You let out an annoyed sigh, but you were actually really grateful he was taking time off to take you to that amusement park-if that's where he meant.
I accidentally switched to 1st POV so now it's Y/n's POV
The drive was filled with us singing along to the radio. I had to remind him to keep his eyes on the road, to which he replied with, "but all I want to look at is you." I rolled my eyes at his cheesiness. He pulled up to the amusement park parking lot and we went to the entrance.
"Hey Steve... don't we need tickets?" I asked, holding his hand as we walked up the line for the entrance. He smiled and pulled out two tickets. "You were planning this..." I said, smiling at him. He nodded, "that's why I needed to work so much, I was getting the money to buy tickets." I was in awe that he would do this for me. I kissed him, "thank you so much!!" He smiled into the kiss. We pulled apart and he put his arm around my shoulder.
We went on a few thrill rides, fast coasters, and then we went on a water ride. It didn't seem too intense, but I got absolutely soaked. Steve was mostly wet, except his jacket which he had stored in one of the storage bins. "Do you want my jacket so you're not so cold?" He asked as he got it out of the bin. I shook my head, "it's like 90 degrees still, I'll be just fine!" He shrugged and we continued walking around the park.
It was a few hours later, it was maybe 8:00pm and I hadn't gotten any dryer, we had gone on the ride again and I got even more soaked. Steve had put his jacket in the storage again so when we got off he wouldn't be freezing cold.
I wouldn't admit to him, but I was freezing . I had a feeling he knew I was cold, since I was literally shivering every two minutes. I had to clench my teeth to keep them from chattering loudly. A few minutes passed and Steve started to take off his jacket.
"What are you doing?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. "Giving you my jacket since you look cold," he said shrugging off his jacket. I shook my head, "no Steve, you'll get sick." Steve smiled, "I don't care, then you'll be taking care of me and I'll get to see you more." I took the jacket from him and smiled like an idiot, "you're such a romantic dork." "Only for you," he winked at me and I blushed. I kissed him passionately, when we pulled away I smirked, "I had to enjoy that, since I won't kiss you if you're sick." He gasped, "no kisses if I get sick?! Give me that jacket back!" "Never!" I yelled playfully, running away holding the jacket tight onto my body.
Timeskip
It was two days after the amusement park. Steve called me early in the morning, "baby..." his voice was raspy and nasally. "Yeah I'll be over in 10 minutes," I said, knowing he needed someone to take care of him. I stopped by Melvald's General Store. Joyce was working there and smiled when she saw me, "Y/n! It's so good to see you!" I smiled brightly and hugged her, "I know, sorry it's been so long. I've been busy." She nodded, "what do you need today?" "Soup, Steve is sick," I answered. She nodded, "how are you and Steve?"
When Will disappeared and I started coming over with casseroles for the Byers family, Joyce has treated me like a daughter and a friend. I loved being able to come to Melvald's and vent about my problems with school and boys. She was the first one I told about Steve being my boyfriend.
"We're good, never better actually, he took me to the amusement park a few days ago. He gave me his jacket, and now he's sick," I explained as I picked out Steve's favorite soup. Joyce smiled and nodded, "that's sweet that you're taking care of him." "Anything to spend more time with him," I remarked. She smiled and I gave her a twenty dollar bill, "keep the change." She gave me a bright smile and we said our goodbyes.
I smiled at Steve as he took a nap on the couch. I had warmed up his soup and we chatted about the summer and about colleges we'd apply to in the fall. He'd fallen asleep after I'd taken the empty bowl from him and went to wash the dishes that were piling up in the sink. He could be a bit of a slob at times, but I loved him.
I leaned over and kissed his forehead, "I love you..." I mumbled, thinking he was asleep. His eyes fluttered open and I felt the color drain from my face, we'd never said the "l word" to each other before. "Do you mean it?" His voice sounded so innocent, I nodded and blushed into my hands. He gently pulled my hands away from my face.
"I love you too, Y/n."
Wow that was 1303 words... hope you enjoyed!
