Roman's POV.
Ya ever wonder if maybe those scary campfire stories you tell with your friends are true? Well it's nice to meet you. See I'm a vampire. Yaknow? The bloodsucking, scary, killers that everyone thinks sparkle in the light for some reason. Well news flash people, we don't sparkle, and we don't die in sunlight. Sure if I'm out for too long I burn, bad. But that would happen if I were human to. Also another fun fact, garlic is not a weakness of ours, I actually really like garlic. The stake to the heart will kill me though, but I think that goes for just about everyone. Well except for Virgil, aka the weirdest person you'll ever meet. He's one of my 'friends'? Kinda.
I know what you're thinking, how could I, a vampire, have friends? Well I actually have a couple. I have Virgil, he's a ghost. Logan, who is a phoenix. Patton, who is a werewolf. And Thomas who is an elf. We're kinda all we have. Thomas, Logan and Virgil are the only ones who really go out. Thomas because he can use magic to hide his pointy ears, Logan because besides fire powers (which he knows how to control) and bursting into flames only to 'rise from the ashes' after dying, he looks completely normal and Virgil because only we can see him, since we're magical beings obviously. Patton and I on the other hand have a harder time blending in. Patton is kinda stuck between his wolf and his human form, last I checked that wasn't exactly normal. Logan has tried to find a way to help Patton look more human and separate those two parts of his mind, he's made progress but nothing's fully worked. As for me? I can repress that part of me, as long as I'm not around blood, but forcing my sharp teeth in hurts. So we've all decided that it would be best if I stay inside as much as possible.
We've only been living with each other for a month now but I already feel connected to them. Well, everyone except for Virgil. He really only gets along with Patton and Thomas. For the most part he just stays in his room. Which is fine with me, he's always angry when he's around me and he kinda creeps me out. Despite being the first one I met, he's the one I like the least. I'm just enjoying my nice cup of rabbit blood and wishing I were still asleep.
Patton makes his way into the kitchen sitting across from me with his phone in hand, "Goodmorning Roman!" He exclaims as a smile spreads across his face, "What about it is good?" I ask while yawning, "Geez, now you're starting to sound like Virgil!" He laughs not looking up from his phone, "Please don't insult me like that thank you very much!" I say into my cup. "I heard that." I hear as a body appears and hovers beside me. I gasp, almost dropping my mug, "Virgil! Are you kidding me?!" I say, checking my shirt for any blood that may have made it's way out of my cup. Virgil chuckles, hovering closer to Patton with a small smirk still visible on his pale face. "Goodmorning Virgil!" Patton repeats, replacing my name with Virgil's but still keeping his joyful tone.
Before Virgil has a chance to speak, Thomas and Logan walk in through the front door, "Oh you're all up!" Thomas says with a smile to which I nod. Thomas comes and sits inbetween Patton and I while Logan stands next to Virgil. "Thomas, ghost chocolate!" Virgil says smiling a bit. We still don't know exactly how Thomas does it, but using his magic of course, he can somehow take the exsisting energy out of whatever exsists in the living world and rebuild it with the energy that Virgil is made of. Basically he can make things ghost-like so that Virgil can pretend that he's alive. Thomas picks up a chocolate bar, holds it in both hands before closing his eyes. A black smoke admits from his hands and surrounds the chocolate bar. Only when Thomas does this does his magic turn black. After the smoke clears he holds up a tranparent but still visible bar, "Ya better grab it before..." Thomas starts before the candy falls through his hand, Virgil's arm extends out as the candy rushes through the air and into Virgil's open hand, "Got it!" He says, smiling down at Thomas, "Thanks Thomas." Thomas nods back as a response as Virgil opens the wrapper and takes a bite.
Logan adjusts his glasses and turns to Patton, "Would you be up for more tests today Patton?" He asks, fiddleing with his tie. Patton's head drops for a moment as he considers the offer while retreating into himself. "If you don't want to I completely understand." Patton nods a little with his head still lowered, "Can I have a couple hours to think about it? It's still early..." He says, whispering his reply, "Yes of course Patton!" Logan rushes, smiling a bit, "Whatever you need." he reasures before walking through Virgil and to the counter, putting on a cup of coffee. Virgil, Thomas and I share a look but drop it per usual. We don't exactly know what 'tests' Logan does, all we know is that Patton is usually in a lot of pain when they are over, and Logan is just very detached and sad? after, but we've learned to leave it alone. Virgil tried asking Patton about it one day and Patton kind off snapped and told him to leave it be.
Logan grabs his coffee, "I'll be in my room if anyone needs me." he explains, offering up a smile to the group, giving Patton one last glance before frowning and leaving. Virgil hovers in the chair between Patton and I, across from Thomas. Patton brings his head up and smiles as though nothing happened, "I'm gonna go lie down okay kiddos?" he says standing up from his chair, "The full moon is tomorrow night and I wanna have as much energy as possible." he explains before leaving the room.
With that we all sigh as though we were all holding our beath waiting for that to end. "Logan and I are going to the store to get groceries later so if there's anything you guys want just add it to the list on the frige, okay?" Thomas informs us, Virgil and I both nod, "Virgil, do you wanna come with us?" Thomas asks, "Nah, not this time." He mumbles, finishing his ghost candy. Thomas frowns a bit in disappointment but doesn't argue. "Okie dokie. Imma go watch Steven Universe if anyone needs me!".
The room falls silent as I try to think of something, anything, to say where I'll actually get a reply instead of a simple shrug. "So..." I trail off, still unsure of what to say, "Save me the forced attempt." He mumbles before disappearing. I scuff into my cup as I take another sip. So, those are my friends. Not perfect, but they've made me better...alot, better...
