Madi-
5:30 a.m.
"Annette!" I get the nurses attention.
"Yes, sweetie?"
"Is there any way that I could graduate early and go into the research field for Cancer?"
"Being that you're so young, and that you're so close to X, they may let you baby, here, I will send you to De'Leion. She'll talk to you. "
I take the card and go to the elevator.

"Dr. De'leion?" I tap lightly on the door frame.
"Yes, sweetie?" she asks, eyeing me.
I sit in the chair in front of her desk.
"I want to be a cancer researcher."
"What?"
As I explain the whole situation, I can feel her eyeing me over. Pastel Lavender hair, black sweatpants and white 'chillin-with-mah-main-slice-' pizza hoodie. I spoke with such monotone, yet such nerve. Who was I anymore? My vans didn't tap nervously on the floor, and I had just walked into a big-time Cancer researcher's office and said I had wanted to do what she does.
"Sweetie-"
"I can't not do this, Dr.De'Leion."
"I understand. I'm going to let you do this, but only because you've been around this for so long." She says quietly.
I breath a quiet sigh of relief.
"Thank you." I say, and you can hear it in my voice I mean it.
"Madi- you start tomorrow. 6:30 a.m. sharp. Your first patient: Xavier." She smiles.
I nod quietly and go to X's room. I sit in the window seal bed and drift into the nothing I call dreams.
