He watched quietly as your form squirmed against the bed, running his hand through your hair to gently rouse you from your slumber, pressing a kiss to your forehead to calm you when your eyes shot open, tears streaking down your cheeks as you looked around frantically. He drew you to his chest, sighing as sobs wracked through your body, frowning slightly as he pressed his face into your hair. The nightmares had been happening a lot lately - nearly every night now Ban would awake to you squirming around beside him, then your eyes would snap open and you'd look around frantically - it was like you were being tormented. He had asked Merlin if there was any solution for it - but she had merely dismissed it as simple night terrors. The anger he had felt at the response was indescribable, but he had kept himself at bay as he hat stormed out - if Merlin wouldn't help him then he'd find a way to stop your nightmares himself.
But he had yet to come up with anything.
"It's alright," he whispered to you as another sob shook your body, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. "I'm here."
"Ban," you choked out, winding your arms around him and holding onto him tightly, pressing your face into his bare chest. "Please don't leave me. Please."
He felt something inside of him break as he listened intently to the pain in your tone, tightening his own grip around you. "Now why would I do that?"
He hummed when you pulled away with him, eyes watering as your gaze met his, and he felt something inside of him clench again. "All those people coming back alive... it makes you think, if they're coming back alive, then surely Elaine can too." His eyes widened a fraction, and realisation washed over him. "And... and if Elaine comes back then you... surely you'll want to go back to her, right? She was your first love, and you were hers. I don't want you to leave me, but it feels wrong to be the one that stops you getting back together."
His frown deepened. "I don't know what goes on in that airless head of yours," he started, poking your forehead. "Why would I want to leave you? I love Elaine, sure I do, but time has passed since she passed away. Do you really think that if I didn't love you I'd keep you around? And if Elaine didn't agree with it either, she'd find some way from the Afterlife to make it known. I know she loves you as much as I do, and I know she's grateful that you're here for me."
With his thumbs he wipes away the tears slipping passed your lashes, leaning down to press a kiss to your lips. A soft chuckle left his lips. "You're stupid if you think I'll leave you just because Elaine comes back. Sure, it would be great, and I would be happy, and maybe it is selfish of me to keep finding a way to bring her back to life when I have you all to myself - but I do it because I owe it to her. She lost her life to me, all because I was too dumb to think before I acted."
The bed creaked nosily as he shifted the two of you, pulling you up so you laid across his body, his forehead pressed to yours. His hands raked up and down your body slowly, eventually coming to rest on your butt.
"I love you, sweetheart," he whispered. He paused. "Is that what the nightmares are all about?"
When you nodded, he sighed, pressing a kiss to your lips again.
"Trust me when I say this. If Elaine comes back, then I won't leave you. You mean too damn much to me for me to do that, and besides - you're all mine."
