Chapter 5 - Make Africa Greater

*Angelina*

After the long flight we were here. How I knew this was Africa. Well it does not require rocket science to tell. See ,the name of the airport is already speaking volumes not to mention the fact that everyone I see outside has quite the skin tone.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Like I said it's quite the name.
"Welcome to Africa please collect your ...." I heard the lady through the speakers say and go on and on with instructions about luggage and wishing people safety.
Out of the plane and on to the land and in the airport I must say it's crowded.
And I mean really CROWtotheDED.
"Mzungu mzungu come this way" some man in a suit tried to plead with my Dad. His local accent already getting on my dad's nerve. But we were supposed to be picked up by the organization's cars. Atleast I think we were I overheard Dad talking to mum about it.
"Hey Angelina you see that guy over there with the blue pants and a grey shirt?" Jake who was now next to me and Evans by my right asked me.

"Yeah what about him?" I asked back.

"Don't tell me you have cousins down here too young blood." Ed mused right after me.

"No asshole I think he has a mouth that looks like he's always got something to say" Jake said out loud.
Either he was pissed at Ed for picking on him or he was just being an Anderson. Straight to the point.
Their straight-forwardness really is creepy.
I'm sure his Dad caught his words because he interjected his loud words "Son what did I tell you about those racist comments"
The old man reprimanded.
"Sorry Dad and for the last time I'm not racist.
My brother's best friend is black, my friend's older cousin's has a brother Lucas and his girlfriend's black.
I'm not racist"
Evans was smiling. He likes his dad's authority over the young boy. Ever since Jake got suspended from school for fighting all focus in their family was shifted to him. Leaving Evans to live his life.
Like he always wanted.
The freedom.

We'd moved our luggage to a black SUV that had a driver asking for the Mendys. The Andersons left way earlier than we did and my guess is they pack way too light. Anyway we would all meet at the hotel definitely. If there was one anyway.
..
"This city is called Nairobi. Did you know it's name refers to a place of cool waters." There goes my brother who was now seated next to me.
"I don't know. That is the kinda stuff Google makes up for idiots as nosy as you are" I said to him.
Clearly not wanting to go any further with this conversation.
But who was Zel to let go.
"Can't you atleast get the irony big sis this place is nowhere near the word cool although I agree it's a beautiful place too"

I love my brother I really do. It's his mind that gets in the way of all that.
So I chose to leave him be and not add anything to that.

Evans*

The three boys were to share a room. How magnificent.
I mean .Ed . the smoke pot. Jake. my irritating brother and. me.
Despite it being a spacious room, I felt like I needed a wall between me and this little freak I have for a brother.

But that was least of my worries right now. The climate change had already got me having new thoughts about people. I mean all that I've seen from the airport to the hotel was too much. But too little to understand.
So all this while that we've been in our country preaching Make America Great chants...there are some on this side preaching
Make Africa Greater.

I must say. Our cultures have a great disconnect.
But there's two sides to every story and now I was going to know theirs.
