“Bring back the ole time days?” some say!
But really did they ask the younger generation if they may?
Honestly, what is it that is so “fantastical” to bring back?
Personally, if we went back we teens go get a heart attack!
~
I’m not ready to give up my ipad and cellular devices,
For a mortar and a pistol, ‘cause “Boy dat is crisis!”
I’m not willing to give up my VOICE as a young aspiring woman,
For the old sayings of parents “Ladies must be seen and NOT heard”
~
“Then what were their duties in the past?” you may ask.
Well preparing Pelau, buljol and rice, calalloo and crab was most definitely a girls’ task,
And well the boys’ tottin’ water up and down,
Not too bad right? Wrong!
Then you must wash the wares, straighten your room, and clean yuh duty washy kongs.
At last! At last!
~
If you thought it was over then you’re most certainly wrong,
Because brothers and sisters just make your day extremely long.
Toiling and shouting over your lungs,
When you could have been watching some Youtube songs.
~
Scolding, quarrelling and throwing tongue,
“Watch nah doh geh mih vex” would be merely a sing song.
Eh! Well believe me when I say chores would be the least of your problems,
‘Cause well... You’ll see.
~
Or maybe not see! Well perhaps barely,
Why you wonder?
Well darlin’ is pitch oil lamp light, NOT florescent bulbs!
Darn those bloody cox sets, and hanging mosquito nets,
I want my privacy and AC vents!
~
Now, I’ll have to admit that there are one or two pluses to the ole time ways,
Like quality family time and fun and games,
And to besides dey does quarrel much,
But there are always hammocks which is so very relaxin’ and such.
~
Kaiso, Calypso, Pan, and Rapso music was slow yet sweet,
But still you know I can’t give up my R&B, Dubstep and fast pasted Techno and K-Pop beats.
All in all the past was ‘nice and sweet’
But times are moving on quickly and it’s up to you to join the urban fleet.
