"This place is so big!" Cyrus exclaims as he and Buffy walk into their new school. He points in the direction of the walls. "The lockers are so much bigger! I might actually be able to fit inside one of them!"
Buffy places her arm around his shoulders. "Those probably aren't the first words you want anyone around here to hear you say. Not that I'd let anything happen to you, but still."
"Driscoll, we both know I can protect him a lot better than you ever could." TJ comes from behind the two of them and places his arm around his boyfriend. Buffy happily removes her arm from her best friend as TJ leans close to Cyrus' ear. He whispers "What exactly is it that I'm protecting you from?"
Cyrus shivers from the contact. Through a smile he replies "A scientific experiment when I determine if whether or not I could fit into these huge lockers."
TJ sighs. "Ah, yes. Speaking of, why don't we go find our lockers. That way we know where to find each other incase things get hectic."
Cyrus glances at Buffy, not wanting to leave his friend alone. "Go!" She says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world. "I can handle myself, I promise."
With that, TJ and Cyrus turn away and walk down the nearest hallway. As they begin walking, Cyrus goes to grip TJ's hand, but stops himself. TJ looks down, noticing his reluctance. "It's okay." He says. "You can hold my hand if you want."
Cyrus pulls TJ to the side of the hallway and looks him in the eyes. "Teej, if you aren't comfortable with publically being boyfriend and boyfriend, it's completely okay. You are only out to a small group of people. I get how our relationship can cause more nerves than usual." TJ had only told his parents and Andi, Buffy, and Jonah. Cyrus, himself, was the first person TJ trusted to tell at a party hosted by Andi several months back. Cyrus knew TJ was still new to the LGBTQ+ community and accepting himself and in no way wanted to rush him.
TJ looks around their surroundings, taking in the already new scene. After a few moments, he brings his eyes back to Cyrus'. "Cy, we're in high school now. There's only a quarter of the school that knows the slightest things about us. The rest of these people know absolutely nothing about us yet. Why not give them something to know?" TJ holds his right hand out for Cyrus, who happily takes it in his own hand.
"I couldn't agree more." Cyrus replies through a smile.
Together, the two boys continue towards where they think their lockers are. They receive a few glances during their stroll, Cyrus notes, but no one says anything to them directly. As long as TJ was okay with this type of attention, Cyrus was too.
