The thing about hanging out with Aisha a lot was the fact that Yiren hardly see her friends outside of school. She never intended for things to turn out that way, it just happened naturally. The more she accepted Aisha's invites, the less she saw her friends.
But she just couldn't help it. There was something about Aisha and her ways that made it impossible for Yiren to decline her offers of spending time together. Maybe it's her lovesick brain, or literally nobody can say no to Aisha. Even when there's a 90% chance that she plans on doing something illegal while they're together. And Yiren lets her.
Yeah, she felt bad when she turned down Sihyun's offer in the hallway, but Aisha simply asked her if she wanted to hang out at an abandoned amusement park first. You can't just bail on the person who asks you to hang out first, that's extremely rude and even worse when you're lining over that person.
"You know," Aisha said as she turned the car off at the entrance to the amusement park, "they say this place is haunted."
A few of her friends were already parked and out of their cars, smoking cigarettes and drinking beer even though it's only a little past four in the afternoon. Yiren still couldn't put names to faces, so she planned on sticking beside Aisha.
"Then why are we here?" Yiren asked, a little scared. At least it was daytime and the sun was out, but still. Creepy things happened in the daytime as well.
"Cause wouldn't it be cool to capture some scary ghost footage?" Aisha grinned, reaching in the backseat for a camera. She waved it in front of Yiren before getting out the call, the smaller scrambling to follow her friend.
Yiren was practically glued to Aisha's side as they met with the rest of Aisha's friends. They greeted the taller enthusiastically, and nodded to Yiren with smiles. They were never impolite to Yiren, always making her feel included even though she had no idea who any of them were.
"So, we're really doing this?" A guy asked, looking as excited as Aisha.
"Yep!" Another held up his own camera, almost identical to Aisha's. "How about we split up into groups of three?"
"I call Yiren and Seoyeon!" Aisha exclaimed, tugging the arm of a red-head to stand on the other side of her. The red-head—Seoyeon—looked unbothered as she took a sip from the bottle in her hand.
"Let's go gays," Aisha said, marching through the gates of the park, dragging her two partners along. Upon closer inspection, Yiren saw that the gates had been locked with a rusty chain and lock. Not anymore, she supposed.
Only five seconds in, and Yiren wanted to chicken out. Both of her arms were wrapped around one of Aisha's, her head whipping around to make sure nothing scary could catch her off guard. Still, with someone as tall and intimidating as Aisha, she was afraid something bad would still happen. And it didn't help it felt like she was being watched.
They headed to the Ticketmaster's booth first, the Seoyeon girl shining her phone's flashlight inside while Aisha recorded it. Dirty tickets were strewn all over the floor, along with a couple of won that was too far away for even Aisha to grab.
Then they continued on, Yiren watching the other groups walk farther and farther away from them, and even if she didn't know them, she felt safer when they were all close together. Yiren gripped Aisha's arm tighter.
"I wonder if any of the rides work," Seoyeon said as they got to the Ferris Wheel.
Yiren doubted it, from how rusty the metal looked and how the paint was chipping off the rides. They'd probably accidentally start a fire and burn the whole place down if they tried to turn a ride on. Then they'd get into loads of trouble, and Yiren's parents would ground her from ever seeing Aisha again, or perhaps even send her back to China on her own to live with her grandparents, and she just couldn't have that.
"Highly doubt it," Aisha unknowingly agreed. "But it would be cool if they did."
No, it wouldn't. But Yiren didn't say anything as they continued on with their ghost hunting adventure.
Nothing remotely terrifying happened as they explored the park. Just some wind rustling the leaves, and sudden laughter from a good few yards away that'll startle Yiren sometimes. Once the sound of broken glass was heard close by, and Yiren was about to bolt right out the park until Seoyeon poked her head around the merry-go-round and apologized. Yiren didn't even notice Seoyeon had left the two on their own, Aisha being fascinated by trying to get the ride to start and Yiren doing all that she could to prevent such a thing from happening.
When they got to the Fun House, Yiren doesn't know how she lost not one, but both of her partners, and she had to take deep breaths not to burst into tears right then and there. She slowly made her way through the attraction, screaming when she heard more of Aisha's friends joining them in the house and running and playing around with each other. She felt much better with the others around, but she'd feel okay if Aisha was by her side.
"RAWR!"
Yiren screamed once again as she was tackled to the ground by somebody laughing above her. She rolled her eyes and punched Aisha in the shoulder, relishing in the groan the older let out.
"That hurt, Yirennie," Aisha whined, rubbing her shoulder with a pout.
"That's what you get for scaring me."
"Oooh! Aisha got in troubleeee!" One of the guys said nearby.
"Shut the fu—"
Yiren cleared her throat, looking at Aisha expectantly. She didn't like when Aisha cussed. Or when anybody did, for that matter.
"I mean," she backtracked, "shut up, Hyunjin!"
The guy cackled before a short 'OOF' was heard, followed by a thumping sound and more laughter.
Yiren sat up, not enjoying the freezing metal pressed against her back, and stopped when she realized Aisha wasn't moving to get off of her. Her heart began to beat fast as Aisha stared into her eyes with a little smirk on her face. Heat crawled in her cheeks, and she wanted to look away before she further embarrassed herself, but couldn't find it in her to do so. Especially when she swore Aisha was leaning in, slowly but surely.
That is until Aisha was knocked over to Yiren's right, another body lying across both of their bodies. Another person laughed as they jumped across the mess of bodies.
"HWANG HYUNJIN!" Aisha yelled, tackling the guy that fell on them.
Yiren scrambles off the ground, torn between relieved at the distraction and disappointed from not knowing what would've happened between her and Aisha.
Did Aisha like her back?
